Not to speculate so just the facts:
As discussed on the Forum many times Rattlesnake and Diamond at part of the outer ring dike of ancient volcano. The center was in West Alton about 1/2 from where I live. Also as discussed the Navy conducted those secret underwater experiments off the north side of Diamond. And this not the first time that the mystery area remained open in spite of very cold weather locking the rest of the lake in. |

In other words I think some of you are trying to say...
![]() Quote:
![]() ..... but if you watched the history channel you would better understand many more of the mysteries of Lake Winnipesaukee. Those space ships that are keeping the water warm are just picking up the gold mined by the Big-Foot's living underground. Seen it on TV and read it on the internet so it has to be true. Nice photo PaugusBayFireFighter .... more proof. On a more serious note it's nice to see that the ice may finally be here. Last edited by Top-Water; 02-14-2016 at 03:24 PM. |

There was a thread a few years ago about a Strange Light on Rattlesnake ..at the top of the island during the winter. At the time I think the power was out on the island for some time. I searched for it today with no results. Maybe the webmaster "Purges" OLD stuff from time to time. It was an interesting thread. .There were some photographs of strange ...well, you would have to see them. ...
NBPS: I remember the thread about the Navy "Presence" during WWII. Couldn't find that one either. Maybe I should re-tune my tinfoil HAT to another frequency...or something....

That was not the thread I was remembering. The thread i was thinking of had some photos of "Sasquatch" bounding across the landscape of Rattlesnake and ....It also might have been a vision of "Peter, Paul, and Mary"...someone else suggested it was another singing group from the time..I can't remember.
NBPS: I am of the correct age...but I was NOT at Woodstock (NY) in '69.

YUP, That's the thread. Some cabin fever that winter. I think Argies Wife must have "removed" her picture of Sasquatch, the Saucer, and Peter, Paul and Mary.. Maybe she copyrighted it and sold it at the Forum Fest. NB

I remember that photo too. She did a great job Photoshop-ing the various images together with the space ship! Too bad it's not there anymore ... the newer Forum members would probably get a chuckle from it.

Actually the experiments were performed on the South side of Diamond Island.
All you ever want to know about those "secret" Naval underwater optical tests: http://escholarship.org/uc/item/0hv3c031.pdf Definitely worth a scroll through... there are quite a few photos of the research facilities and equipment on the island. I will attach an excerpt from page 7 of the pdf. |

It was calm and well below zero last night yet the hot tub remains quite open and unfrozen! With the impending long term warm up starting tomorrow, I see no way for ice in to happen this year...

I suggest everyone stop worrying about "Ice In". We've never had a clear definition anyway, and the "hot tub" area that everyone seems to be watching has stayed open all winter several times during the past decade.
As has been mentioned, you could argue that technically we had ice-in as soon as Alton, Wolfeboro, etc. had ice around the Mount docks. Technically, ice-in would be the inverse of ice out. The more definitive measurement this year seems to be that many of the other coves and areas on the lake that are usually used for winter activities are also not safe, so more are noticing this year. I would agree that with it now being mid-Feb with stronger sun rays, and a forecast of relatively warm days ahead, it's doubtful that the ice is going to be very usable this year. |

Who's worrying??... It's called having a little fun between the boating season blues time frame.
Isn't this the "Official" Ice In Thread anyway that Island Girl starts every year?..., What else are we supposed to post about here?? Heck the webmaster made it a sticky post even... and here I am thinking I am helping people out who don't live near the lake but wish to visit for some winter activities and fun...well shame on me! Dan

. Wasn't my intention.Besides, it's a moot point. About 30 minutes after my post, our official ice declarer posted "Ice-In" anyway! https://www.facebook.com/13184787685...8647332171069/ |
