Most waterfront houses go from Saturday to Saturday and they would be closer to 2K a week or more.
The idea of another family works well, we have done this in the past. Also if your not wedded to the Big lake you my find something on Winnisquam; its smaller and you can't really "boat to dinner" or a town destination. On the other hand it's easier to find your way around and very few hazards. Also because of its shape, there are not many days you just can't go on the water.
