Default Unusual MP activity

There's a lot of comments about the MP and there ability or desire to enforce the temporary 600' wake restrictions.

My observations were contradictory with each other. First both Saturday and Sunday what looked like an MP helicopter regularly flew from the airport, over our marina and all around the Governor's Island area. I don't know if they actually coordinated the boats in the water but they were obviously trying to make a statement. They were low and loud.

But Saturday, when I would have expected every available man to be actively enforcing the NWZ, I saw a MP doing what looked like training. I was anchored off Timber near the noise test area. A small 12'-15' outboard MP boat approached. There was a uniformed MP aboard and a person in street clothes. I thought they were coming to talk to the three cruisers rafting pretty close to the beach. But they came to practice landing the boat on a undeveloped shore. They would run slowly towards shore, drop an anchor of the rear, then motor slowly until the bow was in the bushes and they could step, dry footed, to the shore. The MP did it twice, then the trainee (?) did it a 5 or 6 times. Well at least they're training new people.

Default MP activity

Didn't see the helicopter but did see the MP tow a disabled pontoon boat back to homeport this weekend. Didn't think they did that (tow) anymore.

I saw them towing a boat last weekend (May 20?) in front of the Weirs. I was guessing impound (maybe for BUI), rather than a breakdown. But it was all conjecture based on a view from a distance.

Default Towing?

I happened to tow a disabled pontoon boat from Belknap Point area to the Gilford Town dock adjacent to the MP dock about 3:30 pm on Monday, 5/29. Our blue and white 22' Chris Craft bowrider isn't exactly like an MP vessel though.

Default Towing is contagious

We were out on Sunday for a nice leisurely cruise from West Alton to go around Rattlesnake and back, all at headway speed. Won't talk about the bonehead that passed by me between Cub and Treasure by cutting across my bow then turning toward Minge Cove, all the while throwing a 2 - 2.5 foot wake within 30-40 feet of me and 100 feet of Treasure. Got on the broads side of Rattlesnake and found 16 ft outboard runabout with two adults, two teenagers, and a chocolate lab with an engine that had conked out. Ended up doing an extended run over to Roberts Cove to drop them off. On our way out of Roberts, a boat we had passed on our way in asked if we were with TowBoatUS. I replied "I wish I was", remembering my breakdown a few years ago and my $385 tow. I did join towboatUS the following year.
