Memorial Day Weekend

Certainly a different way to pay respect for those who gave so much for our freedoms. No parades in respectful celebration for what they had done. Kneel for the cross, stand for the flag. Bravest of soles indeed.

This weekend marks a two year anniversary of my Mom's death, and I know that the way in which we are "normal" now would have totally horrified her.

I would always be the family member who would open the camp in West Alton for the summer, and would absolutely take a dip no matter what before heading home to Boston. A tradition I wholeheartedly miss.

On a positive note I'll be picking up the Donzi at Dave's shortly, and it shall be the magic elixir to pull me from this Corona dirge.

My parents’ livelihood depended primarily on Memorial Day. I remember hearing the parade and waiting for a break in customers so I could jump on my bicycle and just go for a few minutes to see it before I came back to work.
If we have learned a lesson from the Spanish flu, it is that having a parade during a pandemic is not a good idea. It doesn’t mean we shouldn’t feel bad about it, though.
