Your recommendation is a great alternative, and a propane stove would eliminate, all the moving parts and electronics of a pellet stove, however, the cost of propane is getting extremely costly, and expected to rise, with new Govt. regulations soon to be being implemented by the Feds. !

A propane stove would also eliminate the issue without power failures, as this type stove does not need electricity to operate, except for any fans to move warm air. That particular issue could be controlled by connecting the stoves electrical connection to a small external generator.

Your thoughts appreciated, as well as rest of Forum members, who may have a 'propane' stove.

Thanks again to all !
We choose a cast iron stove with fan and battery backup for just that reason. It’s not our first source of heat so gas cost is minimal. Would do it again.

Unless your firewood is free, you need to consider the cost of the wood. Seasoned firewood is hard to come by and can cost $350-$400 per cord. Pellet heat is cheaper than propane or wood and a lot less work. IMHO adding an 8" chimney in that location will not be very aesthetically pleasing to look at. Stick with the pellet stove if you can.

I buy my wood in the spring at $250 a cord. If you wait until fall and winter you will pay more and it will be harder to find.

Are you buying seasoned firewood? 6 months isn’t long enough to dry it properly for use. Either way that’s a good price for a cord. Much more expensive here in Eastern Mass and availability is a problem. Believe it or not the pandemic has contributed to that. Most dealers sold out early

Default 2 Pellet Stoves for sale...

...I actually have two pellet stoves that I would like to sell. One is an insert for a fireplace and one is a free-standing unit. They were both in the house here in Bedford that we bought last year. They are both Enviro Empress brand, which is allegedly very good. If anyone has any interest, let me know. Thanks.

Agree with those above, switching from pellet to wood makes little if any sense. Too costly for stove & pipe, lot more work and more mess. Pellet stove will burn all day if you fill it in the morning and leave.

Default Propane Stove

I have a propane stove that provides my heat. I also use propane for cooking and my dryer. The cost of propane varies based on the contract you have with supplier. I do know that higher usage drops the rate. No worries if electric goes out and best of all no clean up. I do have the unit services every other year to ensure highest efficiency.
