I was fortunate enough to have today off and saw a pair of A-10s while floating on my floaty-toy. What a beautiful sight!! They were pretty low...about as low as the jets on approach to Laconia Airport. They seemed to buzz the shoreline of the Gilford/Alton town line. What beautiful birds!

I saw them and they absolutely looked great.
A few decades back (gee, it used to be a few years back, time flies), I won a one-year tropical vacation in a US Government raffle. I got a fairly low draft number!! I remember F4's flying support over us in Viet Nam and there was not a better sight in the world. We used to say: "Thank God they are ours." I had a place a few years back in Lincoln and the A10's were very frequent visitors to the Loon Mtn. ski area. It seemed you could reach out and touch them at times when making runs down the hill. You would not hear them until they went past you, often scaring the heck out of those new the the Loon area. That was another great sight, with sound! I believe they are from Vermont, at least that was the thinking around them when the A10's were up in the Loon area.
Thanks for the thanks, but that was so long ago I even forget some of it. It is the young men and women that are in harms way now in the middle east that we shound be thanking every day. R2B |
