You mean Million Dollar Island? I heard that's what the new owners said it should now be called. (New meaning several years ago-time flies)

It used to use a generator for electricity but the new owners ran electric service out from the mainland and did a lot of other work to update the property. The buyers, and current owners, also have a very nice waterfront home in Wolfeboro. They owned J Jill, the clothing company. I believe the former owner (before 2012) also owned the Cask n' Flagon at Fenway Park. Sometime, about 1993, I noticed about 10 young people on the Center Harbor docks with sleeping bags and knapsacks. They were waiting for boat to pick them up. They said they worked at the Cask N; Flagon and the owner was having an outing at his island, Dollar island. They all climbed into my boat and I gave them a ride out to the island. To thank me, they promised me a free drink at the bar in Boston, which I now remember I never collected. Maybe I should call and see if they would send me the money?

Yes, yes and yes. They bought the mainland house that used to be owned by Jimmy Fallons in-laws. You might have waited too long to collect on that drink. Those kids would all be gone.

Glendale at 8 am today. "Maybe" a launch will be possible tomorrow closely following shore to get out. However the risk will be the ice then closing back in, that happened to us once. Of course there are some willing to risk that for the 1st day of salmon season.

I saw the first fishing boat / canoe go by this morning! They must have launched at Ellacoya. Absolute miserable day to be out there especially in a canoe! More power to them!

Glendale is more closed in that it was yesterday. We did see a truck pulling a trailer with a small green boat leaving Ellacoya this morning.

You know the April 1st Winni Marine, Weirs Channel, weather cam says the water temp is 37-degrees. The coldest the surface water ever gets is 33.8 on about January 31 to February 1.
So, how long can the ice last with the surface water temp at 37-degrees? Here's another question. Does the ice melt into the lake water or does it desiccate similar to ice and snow on the land which vaporizes into the air powered by sunshine? |
