I am not surprised. People are out of control. Nobody knows what no wake or 150 feet is. I see tons of kids on the back of the boats with their feet hanging over and cringe every time. Is MP still short of help? It was so much better when it wasn't part of the state police.

A large pontoon boat ignored the channel markers in front of Irwin Marine last Tuesday night, ran right over the DES buoy! Luckily the buoy was still floating!

“Sailboat crashed into the fireboat” ??? Unlikely. Sounds like some firemen need some boat training.

Time to move the Lake Jake back to the Marine Patrol docks. As long as it is operated by staff who aren't on site, there is little time advantage to being on the first dock which tends to have the most active in and out traffic.

I think a lot of the newer boaters purchased their boats during covid and still have a lot to learn. We seldom go out without seeing multiple boats breaking the rules, especially on weekends. The rental boats, most that are easily identified by their markings, like unit numbers, are a big part of the problem. Last Saturday was especially busy and we discussed trying to boat mostly on weekdays when the lake is a lot quieter. I know not everyone is able to do that, it is one of the (few) benefits of being old! |

What ...... no 2025 boat registration sticker on this 14' Sunfish sailboat can be seen in the LDS newspaper photograph?
Wonder if it got a 'no registration' violation ticket after scratching the docked fire boat?

When my friend and I raced his Hobie 16, we did not need to register the boat because it did not have a motor. Again, that was way back when they used to race on the Broads and I was still in College. And not to be picky, that is NOT a Sunfish. Just saying |

The LDS article says its a Sunfish and looking at it closely, it could be a 14' Laser with a main and a jib sail.
Having bow numbers indicate that it is 12' length or longer, probably a 14' Laser and sailboats without motors, 12 to 20' long do need a bow registration stickers which will cost about $43.50/year for the four stickers. What do you think? Should the Marine Patrol issue a retroactive "no sticker" violation based on the evidence in the LDS newspaper photo or what ...... ha-ha-ha? ..... ![]()

But stepping back, it's laughable that this made news--it's a tiny little nothing of a sailboat (no disrespect to Lasers or Sunfish), likely piloted by a kid learning how to sail, just hoping he doesn't flip it more than once. It could hit a fire boat head on without it bothering anyone |

Basically a small sailboat bumped the fireboat at the dock causing little to no damage. A whole lot of nothing!! Dan

If the Laker Jake were tied up next to Marine Patrol, sloppy procedures could have gotten a two-fer. Maybe that would have been newsworthy?

Considering how very little dock space non-island tax payers have moving that fire boat should free up more space. Non-island tax payers also have to share our limited dock space with Lyon’s Den diners, further limiting our spots.
