Default Corner House in Sandwich

Has anyone recently tried the Corner House? This used to be one of our favorite restaurants….then it was sold and the results were rather iffy. Now it looks like an unfinished symphony from the exterior. Maybe it’s time to give it another try.

Was there a month ago. It was Ok I’d give it a 7 out of 10 . The upstairs pub was redone and much bigger bar now.

Used to like it, but the last couple of times were mediocre. I would like to see it return to top-tier because it is very convenient for me. But 7 out of 10 doesn't seem to be much of an improvement. I thought it was very good under the former owners.

We go early and eat in the downstairs dining room. We’ve had many of the menu items and are pleased with the food and service.

We were afraid that the place wouldn’t measure up to the good old days when Don Brown owned it. There was delicious food, good service, and we went there frequently. It was even fun to eat upstairs in the bar area. Many enjoyable evenings there.

After the first buyers had no success with changing the restaurant from what everyone loved to something that not many people liked, I would’ve thought the next owners would go back to what it was originally. Everyone loved the place. Don and Jane are still in the area and I’m sure they would be glad to help with the old menu items and getting it back to what everybody wants. It just seems like the new owner doesn’t have a clue.

Been there frequently over the last year, usually later in the evening in their upstairs bar area for late dinner. Food is excellent and the staff is friendly. Oasis in a food desert! Prior reviews appear overly harsh IMO.

Unfortunately very few of the people commenting seem to have actually been in the place lately. It would be nice to hear from more actual patrons. This not what it used to be comment gets old. Need fresh reviews

This thread impelled me to go for the first time tonight. I liked the atmosphere upstairs. The service was fine and the food was fine. Sorry, I can’t compare it to its past iteration but I would recommend it for sure.

Default It's okay - mostly service issues

As I live in the area, I have been to The Corner House several times in the past few months. Initially when it was newly re-opened I ordered a stir fry dish. None of the menu items were actually in the stir fry, it was mostly red peppers. I can understand being out of fresh produce, especially when newly re-opened and you can't rely on customers, but I should have been warned that they did not have the items. The food is good, the service is friendly, but lacks in common sense. Each time I go, I swear not again. For example, order a starter of French Onion soup, but it comes with the main entree instead of as a starter. Now I have to be very explicit that I want the soup first. And I always get the French Onion, it's terrific! Prices are an issue, but that's a common problem. Mac and Cheese for $18 is too much to order for a child. They should offer small kid's portions for less. On a recent visit with family the waitress told us she was new, only her 2 or 3 day on the floor. She came to our table 8 times, delivered menus, water, took drink orders, delivered a soda, and then a milk, but I waited 25 minutes for a cocktail. She told me the bar was back-ordered, but when I placed my order, there was only 2 people at the bar. It did become crowded, and I'm sure there was a back log at that point, but I had ordered well before the rush. Between her many visit and the food runner, who was GREAT!, it just seemed very disjointed. The food runner was delivering plates and handing them to us because none of the starter/appetizer plates or empty glasses had been cleared. He did realize and tried to clear some plates so that we could set our entrees down. Also, the server told us the specials but no prices. I prefer a printed list with prices included with the set menu. I have voiced my concerns and will continue to visit because it's so convenient. I usually sit upstairs and love what they have done enlarging the area. Also, the "bar" area with the pool table downstairs is a nice addition for a sunday football game. Over all, for the price point I expect a more relaxed, enjoyable meal. Maybe downstairs is better for service.
