Evergreen Clam Bar & JJ Goodwins on Rt. 28

We have been to Evergreen Clam Bar and the food was good; the prices were really good (I'm actually surprised that more people are not there when we go...and also that they stay in business with the prices).

We also have picked up pizza at JJ Goodwin's (only once). It's been a while (a year and a half?), but if I remember correctly, it was pretty good....not really any place I would want to dine at with my family, but great for picking up a pizza on a drive-by.

I think both places are worth a try....

.....and the Evergreen Clam Bar has changed hands. The lease now belongs to David Preston, owner of OSG Paintball. A Memorial Day opening is planned after extensive renovations.

Preston plans to change the restaurant's signature pine green color, and repaint it to suit its new name, once the right one has been found.

For the first few years, Preston said his main focus will be the restaurant itself, but he is already looking toward the future with plans to re-open the long-dormant family ski hill attached to the property.

"There's not a lot to do around here for youth in the wintertime," he said, explaining that residents will be able to choose between skiing and snow tubing.

Preston also hopes to open a drive-through gourmet coffee stand on the property, but said that those plans won't become a reality until next fall, at the earliest.

"It's nice to be able to get a really good cup of coffee," he said, adding that there are not a lot of coffee shops in the area to choose from.

For right now, though, Preston's focus is on the first step, finding a name.

This area was located on Route 28 in Barnstead.. I believe it was part of a private development called Locke Lake colony. It had a rope tow with 3 or 4 trails. The base lodge is still there and is operating as a Clam Bar/Ice cream restaurant. The area was operating in the late 60's into the early 70's. Some of the old lift can still be seen at the bottom with trees and brush all around."
