Smile Wow.

According to the Weirscam, you guys are having a SPLENDID day there in the Lakes Region. It's hotter 'n you know what here in Central Florida, so will spend the day at the pool.
Enjoy it and stay safe.

Hi All. Glad you had a good weekend. Just because I don't live there anymore doesn't mean I don't care. Otherwise, why would I bother?
133 of you have read this and not one person has wished me a safe weekend, too. I guess it's just my memories that make it special, not anything current. I am disappointed. Oh well, I think most of you would really rather debate the issues of "off shore" than talk about the thoughts and feelings of those who come here on a regular basis is with good thoughts and good wishes for you.
Should I just exit and leave you all to the "issues" rather than what? the feelings? the memories? I am sad. Let me know.

Lady Di,

I am sorry you feel put out because noone responded. I read your message and actually remember thinking how nice I thought it was that you would take the time to write that and wish everyone a nice weekend. However, as I read it, it wasn't the type of post that I would have expected a reply from. It was in deed very nice, and I am sure people hope you had just as nice a weekend, but I am sure you don't do nice things because you expect things in return. I am glad to hear from you tonite though to know that you are in fact safe.

Isn't it great to have all these web cams available to check the weather and lake conditions? They do, however, make it even harder to be removed from the region. Makes the distance seem shorter in some ways, and greater in others.

Where in central FLA are you? I have relatives in the Ocala/Gainesville region and over in Steinhatchee. They're old-time Lakes Region lovers, too.

Stay cool!

Hello Lady Di,
You did not get a response from me because I figured I blab so much on this site that people must be getting sick of my two cents. If you would like to chat, you can always drop me an e-mail. Your post did make me smile!

Smile We're in Florida , too!

Hi Lady Di--Sorry we didn't reply to your original post. Especially for those of us that are " roasting" and getting bombarded daily by thunderstorms in Florida. I , too , grew up loving this magical lake Winni-- I have many childhood and teenage memories from the Merideth Bay area. We now only get there about twice a year, but the time there is still precious. We should form a "Florida Club" and keep the good times flowing with this wonderful website. It is the " home page on my computer". Take care -- and -- God Bless everyone of you lucky enough to be at the lake-- Gil & Mary Anne

I will gladly take those thunderstorms off your hands...please send them north.
The whole reason I became a meteorologist was because of the thunderstorms we experienced when I lived in Ohio.

Hiya Lady Di,

I kind of agree with Frdxplorer. I didn't read your post and think to myself, "I should post a reply". I hesistate to post unless I have something to add... too many posts in a thread these days are multiples of the "me too" line of thought.

Anyway, now with all these responses I DO have something to add besides "me too".

I think its interesting to note the seemingly high number of people in Florida that have a connection, or used to live up here. I seem to recall an informal thread on the old board about where users of this forum lived, but it'd be neat to have a poll asking such.

Also, when anyone says "Central Florida" I think Disney World. Is that where you're located?

(WDW is the family's SECOND favorite place to vacation.)

Default I will try again.

Hi Grant. We are in Lake County. Over 1,000 named lakes. SOme larger that 3,600 acres. Not all clear, but many spring-fed. Hills galore, gorgeous sunsets.

RattlesnakeGal.....keep blabbing. I love to hear news from "home".
It's good when one's "away".

Rose......I think I missed my calling. I love to watch TWC more than any other network. I will gladly share the storms, but I love them, too. Guess I need the old New England excitement. LOL.

Wolfeboro Matt.....we are about 40 miles North of WDW.....check this out. www.mountdora.com It's known as the New England of the South.

GIl and Maryann......I know you're in Gainesville.....my sister and BIL are in Morriston. Lightning capital of the world.

I feel like I have typed this and lost it 10 times tonight....but I will say it again. My fondest memories of the Lakes Region are my kids swimming at Gilford Beach, and me......in "The Great Winnipesaukee Steamboat Race and Musical Talent COntest"......Mrs. Beresford.

As usual,
Stay safe.

LD -- we've "talked" before...

I'd stay all year on Winnipesaukee, but my camp is not insulated. So for a few months a year, I head for a Florida lake one hour south of WDW, and just eight miles from the Sebring International Raceway. Eight miles is close enough so I can hear what race groups are running (and can go home for lunch when instructing), but far enough so I don't have to hear.

The biggest boats on my lake [a very round lake] race along the shoreline for about five minutes, race around the other direction, then head for the boat lift. Pontoon boats are the boat of choice for most there. Weekends bring out the Jet-Skis. It's so quiet during the week, I'm actually glad to see them! (If the wind is right, that is).

Largemouth bass fishing is excellent, with 12-pounders occasionally making the local paper. You do have to sail around the occasional alligator -- who aren't "afraid" of sailboats. Heck, you have to sail around the occasional monster turtle! (There'd be even more of these monster turtles, but the powerboaters "take them out").

I see/hear bald eagles and sandhill cranes every day , and the resident osprey perches (and snacks) on the top of my sailboat's mast.

My other Florida lakefront property I rent out seasonally to Winnipesaukee folks .

Default Hey.....

Would that be Lake Placid? It's pretty there, too. Nice to have all the nature nearby. You should take a drive up the Lake County sometime to check it out.

Question Lake Placid? Florida?

You're right -- and it is nice, as is Lake County. Lake County has hills! My newest neighbors are from Orlando.

Lake County was a bit of a hike for weekends, so I bought in Highlands County 16 years ago (and burned the 15-year mortgage last September).

About five years ago, the local headline read Lake Placid Population Doubled Last Year". Jeepers. Every day, the bulldozers take out more orange groves and cement trucks are pouring more foundations. Lots of mid-Westerners, bless 'em. They're a lot like the old-timey New Hampshire folks!

Interest rates are low...Florida's filling up.
