I am new to the forum and a new owner of a cabin on Little Bear. My son is interested in finding a summer job - possibly at one of the camps on the lake. Does anyone know how hard it is to get into one of the camps as a counselor or another capacity?
Also can anyone supply us with a list of the names of the camps on the lake? Any other job suggestions would also be helpful. Zach has his boating license and will be 16 in February. Thanks in advance for all your help. |

job-424849524@craigslist.org, 9/17/07, lists a Squam Lake Camp Warden/Caretaker position for three Squam islands, next summer.

On Bear Island there is Camp Lawerence Boys camp. Its really nice and has its own large transport vessel to and from Y Landing in Meredith. There is also a thing called GOOGLE that could help you out.

Camps Tecumseh (Boys), Winaukee (Boys) and Robindel (Girls), all three located off of Moultonboro Neck Road. Good luck to your son in his search for summer employment!

Welcome! Hope some of this is helpful. I should point out that most camps I know of would look at your son more as a counsellor-in-training at his age rather than a full counsellor; but check with the camp to make sure. These are all boys' camps on Winnipesaukee, but there are many others in the area on other lakes.
Lawrence - Bear Island, Meredith; YMCA; general program Northwoods - Rte 109, Tuftonboro; YMCA; general program Belknap - Rte 109, Tuftonboro; YMCA; general program Tecumseh - Moultonboro Neck Rd, Moultonboro; private; general program Winaukee - Winaukee Rd, Moultonboro; private; competitive sports oriented Brookwoods - Chestnut Cove, Alton; private Christian; general program Kabeyun - Black Point, Alton; NH Audubon Soc; general program As far as other opportunities go, there are lots of seasonal jobs in the tourist trade around here. For instance, I work for the Mt. Washington ship and we're always looking for crew members. A 16 yo would be able work in our food service area or as a deckhand on the Doris E or Sophie C. Deckhands on the Mount have to be 18. Good luck. |

As a camp counselor (or more likely counselor-in-training), your son won't get to spend any time at your new cabin on Little Bear. How about a day job instead? Working on a gas dock? For a marina? I love the idea of the deck-hand job on the Sophie C/Doris E. There's tons of seasonal work. Many places hire teenagers who come from Eastern Europe for the summer, so I'm guessing there are plenty of jobs for "local" kids.
