Let's see....
1) No carbs 2) Expensive Winnipesaukee lunches ($152) http://www.winnipesaukee.com/forums/...ighlight=lunch You're getting your carbs adjusted "for economy" -- and less pollution? Good for you! Stock carbs are relatively cheap...Keep spares, and you won't miss a day on Winnipesaukee. |

I thought it was a little quieter on the lake this weekend - now I know why. More economy? You've got to be kidding! Try less HP.

What a beauty, I'm envious. Do you post on offshoreonly.com, I saw someone in the Formula forum from NJ. What kinda of boat do you have, and what engines are in it that are making 625 hp??

Wow, nice engines!
How fast does your 272 go? I saw someone else on OSO with 540's in his that was doing something like 94 mph, but I think his engines were less than 600hp each. |

Hey Cal, Nice photos!
Check out this 46 ' x 9.5 ' beamed Cougar with Three 900 HP engines aboard! I have more photos if your interested. This boat dose 105 MPH in a 4 and a halve foot chop!..............................Trust me. A short burst of power going through lobster pots on just two engines when I took this photo. Under full power, there is a 75 foot high roostertail behind this boat! Her name is;.........."Distant Thunder". No water skiing, behind this one!!

The difference is that the gentleman with the "purple and gold" carburetors boats on this lake and contributes to this forum.
Personally, I'm getting bored with your narrow mindedness when it comes to performance boats. I spent yesterday, with 50 performance boat owners, contributing to a worthwile cause, yet I'm sure, in your mind we're all inconsiderate and incompetent operators. I'd be happy to take you for a ride in my dangerous, gas guzzling "offshore" any time you'd like. Maybe, just maybe, rather than gratuitously bashing people you don't know, and boats you seem to know little about, you could take a bit of time and open up your mind. Just a thought. Nothing wrong with stock when it comes to those HP 500s. They're darn near bullet proof(except for some valve springs) ![]() My Formulas Silent Thunder exhaust make less noise than some people. Just a nice mellow rumble , not that pathetic whining ![]() ![]()

mad,
I don't know of anyway to "defeat" it , just "comply" with it. And yes , price varies greatly depending on the muffler type you buy( from $100's to $1000's) It can be defeated with switchable exhaust. That can be changed from thru hub to thru hull , but those are also illegal in NH. I had one exhaust system inspected by the MP for that same reason. When I come off plane the exhaust quieted down like I switched it. It was just that the exhaust wound up under water at an idle and headway speed. ![]()

It is pretty hard to defeat the MP db test, as someone has tried every trick before, and they have someone on board the boat being tested to insure that the boat is tested at full throttle and at half throttle, and that the exhaust does not have an operable switchable exhaust. The only way to beat it would be to spend the money for better mufflers for the test and then remove them, although I am not sure why someone would waste that kind of money. I spent $2000 to add mufflers to my boat when I brought it to the lake from the midwest 3 years ago, and I don't have the extreme high performance racing engines that some have on the lake.

But the days of "nice rumble" could be numbered: The Union Leader has been addressing NOISE this past week in Nashua and Manchester. This Sunday's issue shows that NOISE is finally getting some representation, and that the police are about to be sued...to do what? Enforce the Law? What a concept! http://www.theunionleader.com/articl...?article=41571 Also, this observation from Powerboater magazine: Quote:
Since Winnipesaukee residents are paying more and more in property taxes to be close to the NOISE and BAD AIR air, maybe -- just maybe -- Concord will get the message. |

Mad,
You remind me of the people who buy near the highway...then complain about the noise. Or the people who buy by the farm ...then complain about the smell. Come on , this is EVERONES world and theres thing that are going to annoy you and things that will annoy me. I personally find it easier to GET OVER IT and move on with my life rather than making myself and others around me miserable. ![]() Have a wonderful day!

First off , catalytic converters are not a cure all as you may believe. Properly maintained and tuned powerboats (particularly newer fuel injected ones) are very low emission machines. "Cats" only put a bandaid , so to speak , on the ones that are too high and still that's no guarantee. Cats would also require dry exhausts , since water going through them would render them useless , and we both know what that means since you already mentioned shutting the water off.

MAD, While I agree that laws must be enforced & many motorcycles are too loud when they don't have to be, enforcing noice ordinances is difficult & its also costly. I did not write down figures but I saw the news report on WMUR. It takes alot of manpower that is needed for other crimes & investigation, overtime needs to be paid because to properly enforce it there must be officers placed at certain areas specifically for that purpose. If they don't do this then if another more important call is received they must attend to it. Also if you catch someone, you write the ticket & the offender leaves the scene with the noisy motorcycle or stereo still intact & still making noise so what have you accomplished? & then you may never be lucky enough to catch the same offender a second time so the problem still exists.
There are much more pressing problems in NH right now that require our resources, like funding education. Right now that seems more important than the 15-20 seconds of a loud rumble going by the house. |
