Hello!
I am getting married July 11, 2009 and I have been searching for a home with a really nice property on the water in the Lakes Region to have my wedding. I have check with every single Real Estate agent and every website with vacation home rentals. I am not looking for more advice as to where I can search. I am looking for an actual location. Does anyone know someone that does this or would consider doing this? I would even do it at a B&B, as long as my guests were the only ones on the property the day of the wedding. We would ideally like to rent the house for 2 nights - one week, from Friday-Sunday, or Sunday to Sunday (the wedding will be on a Saturday and we must have the location for that entire day! The location I am searching for MUST be on the water, MUST have flat land facing the water (decent lawn too if possible) We do not need to stay overnight at this location but I would like to rent the site from 8am-10pm if the property can only be rented for the day. This will be a day wedding and no music will go past 9pm. We will have between 150-175 guests. We are planning to bring in port-o-potties so our guests will not be walking throughout the house. And we also will have a large tent so everything will stay outside! I would love to hear all suggestions out there. Again, we are not looking for a "wedding venue" or hotel. We want either land facing the lake or land with the home. In other words, I will consinder just the land if someone has space on the water without the home! Thanks! |

If you find a suitable home your looking at big money, like $5,000 I'd guess. For that kind of money do you want guests to be using porta-potties? For 5 big ones I'd use the home to the fulliest.

I would highly suggest Churchs Landing in Meredith, part of the Inn at Mill Falls complex.
Good Luck! Dan |

You are right but I don't want to scare off any potential home renters by using their home for our 150 guests. I have been searching for this location for so long that I am willing to bring in port o potties if it means I get the place I want. But you're right, having a home with bathroom for the guests to use would be great but I'm not being picky at this point. Do you know of a place?

Thanks but I tried this one. I forget why it wouldn't work, I think it was the number of guests but I do know we can't do it here. Beautiful though.

Mills Falls isn't on the water but Church Landing is. My daughter just had her wedding there and it was wonderful. The only problem is that you won't be able to book it now for next July, they are booked for at least a year ahead

Will be perfect for a small function or wedding. My high school class holds its reunion there and Alex Raye would cook a mean lobster bake. I have attended a couple of weddings there and its a perfect setup as the guests can stay on the premise.

How about Brewster Academy? Plenty of room for a tent, in fact depending on the timing you may be able to use the tent and porta johns that are already set up for the Great Waters Concert series. Certainly the Boat House there would work.
By the way, how many people are you talking about? How big a tent? Would you consider being on an island? The Wolfeboro Inn is on the water, does weddings and has a tour boat to take you guests for a ride. |

... to find someone willing to rent you their house for your wedding, especially if it's a big one (such as yours).
My wife and I tried every possible avenue and no one wanted to do it, no matter how much was offered for price. It would take an enormous toll on the house/landscaping/neighborhood if 150 guests showed up for a wedding, not to mention the plumbing that a previous poster talked about. We ended up getting married at Church Landing last August and I can not say enough positive things about the experience. From the food (we did the carving stations), to the staff (especially the waitress who took care of my wife and me), to the early check in they gave to all of our guests (we got married on a Friday night and the rehearsal was at 3pm on Thursday), everything was perfect. It was cloudy all day up until 4:00. At 4:30 when the ceremony began it was all sunshine, a slight breeze, no humidity, and about 85 degrees. Absolutely perfect. It was over a year ago and I still remember every single second of it. If you do get married there, try to stay in the Tree House Suite. It's kind of removed from the rest of the hotel and is very cool inside. Congrats and good luck!!!

It might not hit all your requirements but try the Governors Island Club. That will be peak season for them but you never know until you try.

I second Brewster. My brother went there (I did KUA) and it is a very nice location. As was mentioned the Boat House could be a good place to set up seating and food.
There is no way that I would want to rent out my house for an event like this. The liability would be HUGE and you would no doubt have to take a special rider on the insurance. On top of that with all those people the landscape would take a beating and have to be redone no doubt. The cost could be well in excess of 20 grand by the time you added it all up. Don't get me wrong I hope that you find what you are looking for, but you may need to bend in your requirements a bit. Jon |
