Default Lakeside Attractions

By report, last year was a rough time for lakeside attractions such as Weirs Beach and the Mt. Washington.

The recession and perhaps lifestyle changes contributed to a plunge in tourism. and with it the almighty tourist dollar.

What will this summer hold?

Another rotten year could be a death knell for some; cross your fingers and hang on for heavy weather.

Last summer, I believe the weather was a contributing factor as well.

Good question. Hopefully the result is a positive one, however we have many strikes against us. In the meantime I think supporting local businesses should be top on everyone's list. Not only does it help our local economy, but it seems to be more rewarding when the man or woman behind the counter or serving you knows you by name, your likes and dislikes, and the most likely reason your visiting. Best of luck to everyone for the summer season of 2009.

Hoping for a good season. We can see it starting already here in Wolfeboro - more traffic and out of state license plates.

Default New Restaurant

I was very very surprised see a new restaurant under construction on the Weirs strip.
We were were heading up to Crazy Gringos (great spot, by the way. Always have a great time there) and saw the new construction.
The workers said the plan was to be open for bike week, which is next week. I'm no constuction expert, but from the quick look that I took, it would seem the time table is a bit on the aggressive side.
Anyway, with times being what they are, and the Weirs business being very seasonal (basically 2 or 3 months to make money) I was surprised to see a new restaurant.
I always like trying a new spot, so am looking forward to stopping for a drink or three. But my thought is that the owners are taking a large risk.
