I know you can't fix stupid, but I am compelled to vent, nonetheless....
Heading through the Governor's / Eagle Island Channel going towards the Weirs about 2:30 Saturday afternoon. Slowed to "no wake" speed, as required. Heading toward the channel in the opposite direction from The Weirs was a huge flybridge cabin cruiser...I'm guessing 35-40'+. Guy never slowed....wake was huge....several feet. I have a 25' bowrider and his wake came over my bow as we went into the trough of his wake. Both my wife and I yelled "NO WAKE" and moved our arms in a downward fashion to get him to slow down as we passed in the channel. The guy just looked at us from his flybridge and shrugged his shoulders and kept going. I really couldn't believe my eyes and was so stunned that he didn't slow down that I didn't even think to get a reg #. Welcome to summer on the lake.... |

Another way to call him out on the forum is Usually boats that size are named !
Tough to get a Reg# when your staring down the barrel of what you know is going to be "not good" ... but a glance backwards gives you a boat name in much larger type size. My guess .... just reaching here ... was that it was a 38' dark colored Sea Ray .

One cruise through Meredith No Wake zone, not at cruising speed but at a good pace to throw a good wake, around 3 PM. Sounds like the same guy!

It was all white....white hull, white first-level cabin, white fly-bridge. Didn't notice a name on the stern, nor did I notice the make/model.
Drove by Mt View Yacht Club yesterday while on some errands and did notice a boat in a slip right at their parking lot very visible from the street that looked a lot like it.... |

Oh they were out there on Saturday, that's for sure. We were cruising with friends and never, ever did we have so many boats fly by us way too close. They were wild!!

I stopped boating on the lake during weekends several years ago. To me, the Marine Patrol and a lot of those in boating got so side-tracked by a fabricated boating safety issue, they forgot about the real safety issues. From that point onward, safety and responsible boating on Lake Winnipesaukee went dramatically downhill mainly on the weekends.

Some times during my socializing around my yacht club (MVYC) I run across a new face with a REALLY big boat.....and start up a conversation. More often than not, this is their first boat

You want an entertaining afternoon? Walk down to a popular public boat dock with a cooler and a chair. Best one I saw was at Salisbury State Park. Woman had the motor roaring but was barely moving in the little harbor area. Pulled up next to the docks all confused.
The trailer was still attached to the bottom of the boat. ![]() |
