roast beef shop around Winni
I was wondering if there are any roast beef places similar to the ones in northern MA (Nick's Famous Roast Beef)...around Winni. These sandwiches are served hot (the meat is very rare), on a hamburger like bun and usually have a sweet, spicy BBQ sauce...any input would be appreciated.

The only place that I know of that has a decent roast beef sandwich up here in NH is a place called Boston's Best Roast Beef on Rt.16 as you're approaching the Conway area. A little far off from Winni, but delicious. I know exactly what you mean by "Northern MA" roast beef. I absolutely love places like Beachmont Roast Beef in Revere, Billy's in Wakefield/Melrose, and many others down in that area. I'm very interested to here other replies...

Boston's is good
I've actually been to Boston's and it is very good...I was just hoping to get a little closer to the lake.

Rob's Roast Beef on Route 25 in Moultonborough. (Irving Gas station.)
I have to say their roast beef sandwiches are very tasty-especially on the toasted onion roll. (Get extra napkins) Enjoy! Smitty |

Just like Nick's
Made it out to Rob's Roast Beef last week and it was great! Just like Nick's Roast Beef in Beverly, MA...they even use the same James River BBQ sauce...hope it's still around for next year's visit, good luck to them!

WARNING: Jon's RB
I've been to Jon's, and while I'm sure it is fine, and many people like it, it IS NOT like Nick's RB, Harrison's RB (North Andover), Kelley's RB (Revere)...it is served cold, and just not the same as the above mentions places. Not the same at all.
Thought I could walk in and say, "large, mayo, cheese, sauce heavy", and they would know what that meant, but this was not the case. Harrison's and Kelly's...well, they speak the language. |

I had a good feeling I was safe at Rob's when I saw the sign that said Jr. Beef, Large Beef, Super Beef...and a bottle of James River sauce...they know the lingo...LOL

good as ever
Quote:
The father, who was always the one at the slicer, next to his oldest son, who assembled all the sandwiches, past away a couple years back. Also, the menu board is now old, faded, and in general disrepair. The only bad thing about Harrison's is that the workers don't make it easy for people that go there and don't know the drill. If you don't "speak the language", and know how the items are served, it is tough to figure out. |

My wife and I were looking forward to having a Jon's roast beef sandwich for dinner last night. She pulled into Jon's parking lot at 6:30 pm, Jon's was closed, even though the hours of operation were listed as being open to 7:00 pm. Both of us were very dissappointed.
I never understood why a restaurant would close early, as they lose the faith of their customers. If they cant be relied on to follow their posted hours of operations, why go there. |

Rob's Roast Beef is the only one in the area that is the same as the Boston roast beef sandwiches... Jon's is good, but nothing like the sandwich you get in Boston

...The "REAL DEAL" for the Mass-like roast beef is at the source...Bill & Bob's in Lincoln, N.H....The owners have transplanted to Loon...NOT to be confused with B & B in Beverly...same name but NOT the same family...

I love Beachmont Roast Beef too. My favorite though is Kelly's at Revere Beach. If you're looking for a Roast Beef sandwich up here that compares to either of those two you can fuhgeddaboutit.
