Though he mostly focuses on the economic system via the differences between "shareholder" and "stockholder" capitalism, there is the underlying implication that at some point we moved away from focusing on the good of the system and onto the good of the individual. Another interesting book is "The Death of Expertise," which delves into the shift from experts to armchair academics that has been enabled by the Digital Age/Information Age. I crack up (and cry a little) everytime I see a "99% of experts believe XXXX, but my high school friend who sells homemade bongs says XXXX." All's I know is that 1. I've got friends and family who have struggled with or been lost to Covid. 2. What I'm being asked to do by wearing a mask, ensuring physical distance, and limiting my exposure by avoiding group activities without safeguards is not at all that difficult. 3. Businesses and livelihoods are being hurt by the pandemic. 4. If more people accepted #2, #3 would be dramatically reduced. Sent from my SM-G950U using Winnipesaukee Forum mobile app |
