Columbus Day - What a day!

It was a great day on the lake! We enjoyed skiing and boarding, ice cream in Wolfboro and spotting a bald eagle soaring over head. The only regret was I forgot the camera and left it on the seat of the truck.

Maybe it was the last chance to enjoy playing in the water, but I'll sign up for more days like yesterday, so we'll hold off on putting the boat away for two more weeks.

perfect weather for sailing!

Monday was the perfect weather for a sail. Great afternoon wind, warm temps and very few boats out on the water, especially compared to Sunday. :)

However, there are still those boaters who don't give a darn about the 150ft rule.

Sunday and monday was very nice! Still in the water until Nov. 1st.

Well -- with a week-end to die for (weather wise) we finally called it quits :(

Now the oficial mourning begins and will probably last a good 6 months as the boat sits on a lonely rack with nothing to do but compare experiance's of the summer past with the boat racked on eithor side.

All in all -- another great season !! 135 hours logged in on the hour meter this season (down from 155 last season) -- take THAT all you folks who want to claim I'm a "tourist" from Masssachusetts !! and that doesn't include all the hours anchored at sandbars or parked at the Town docks while supporting the local economy...... Don't get me wrong -- We love it here.

For those who haven't pulled yet, I found out an astonishing fact this week-end

With the debate on where to leave your fuel level now that Ethenol has been introduced into the gas -- I found out (from the serv mgr at our Marina) that no Ethenol added fuel has been used on the lake -- it still remains MTBE. Evidently, all the fuels north of Manchester are delivered from Portland versus the Revere, Ma facilities ---- Portlands fuels have "yet" to convert. So leave your gas tanks where-ever (full / empty / 1/4 tank, whatever).

The End Of Summer Has Arrived

For our family summer starts when the boat goes in the water (usually before Memorial Day) and ends when it comes out (usually around Columbus Day).

For us the end of summer was today.

We made one last trip to Fay's, fired up trusty Volvo Penta, and slowly motored our way to Glendale. By 10AM the deed was done. The boat was hauled home by way of a gas station (filled the tank and added some Stabil). By 2PM the colling system had been flushed, the engine fogged, the engine and stern drive oil changed, and the fuel and oil filters changed.

Now it's the cosmetic work needing taking care of. Got to acid wash the hull to clean off the scum, wash down the rest of the boat and maybe, just maybe, get a coat of wax on her.

Already I'm thinking about next summer.....

Sailboat out

Mother nature sure has a sense of humor. No sooner did I pull my sailboat out, we had a beautiful day, in the 50's, with a moderate southern sailing breeze. Here I sit with two wet feet and no sailboat to exploit the wind. :( The motorboat comes out in a week or two. Its getting near taint season. Taint summer no more, leaf season is almost over and winter is still way off.

Airwaves 10-14-2006 03:45 PM

The boat left the lake yesterday, actually being pulled out on Thursday the
12th :( I've even started wearing long sleeve shirts, it appears summer may indeed be over :( :( :(

What a beautiful day on the lake today. I've told myself that I'd do a fall foliage trip one of these years and today was beautiful. The foliage may have been past peak but it was still a beautiful day on the lake. I left the boat at the marina to get winterized so till next year!

I think this week.....

We are scheduled for later in the week, not sure of our place on the list for haulout. I was talking to Mighty Moe on Columbus Day, he told me a story about a girl who called him for help on Thanksgiving Day a few years ago. She hit a rock....she was out on the boat without her Dad's permission. I bet that turkey didn't taste all that good!

Wave cuz I'll be wavin back

Ya know, her turkey might not have tasted very good that year. I'll bet that her Thanksgiving Day story gets better every year and she becomes a legend in her family! :D

A great way to get out in late Fall

As always, I returned my 1984 Thompson in early September to the marina because of low water near my doock. This past weekend however, my wife and I were out in beautiful Paugus Bay enjoying the foliage with the great folks from Paugus Bay Marina in a new Bryant 219 bowrider. Whether it was the crisp air, the beautiful leaves, or a great boat... We did it! We bought it. If anyone sees a new Bryant bow rider in Alton area next spring say Hi. (I'll probably spend half the spring practicing docking it)

jrc 10-16-2006 03:49 PM

... We did it! We bought it...

That's why I'm not allowed within 100 yards of boat dealers ths time of year.

BTW my boat is out on blocks and awaiting the shrink wrap dude

Congrats! Bryant makes a wonderful boat that ought to last forever.

Joe Bryant occasionally posts on the www.boatingabc.com forum and is well respected. Check it out if you have time. Lots of Winniepsaukee boaters there.

Newbiesaukee 10-18-2006 01:52 PM

Took the boat in this morning for its winter rest. Of course, the rain had stopped and the Broads were like glass. About half the loons I saw had their winter plumage, I guess it really is time.

Gas-ethol

Evidently, all the fuels north of Manchester are delivered from Portland versus the Revere, Ma facilities ---- Portlands fuels have "yet" to convert. So leave your gas tanks where-ever (full / empty / 1/4 tank, whatever).[/QUOTE]

Phantom: It is possible that this statement is true for marina's, but it is not for regular gas stations. I think all the stations coming up 28 have ethol in it. That is where I first spotted it. I do not shop for gas at the marina's one thing good about having an outboard with auxilary tanks.

This is my last weekend of boating this year, and it won't be much more than pulling the boat on Sat. I am hoping to put it in the conn river in Conn for a few hours but that will be about it.

Waterbaby 10-19-2006 08:01 PM

In This Weekend?

Is anybody going to still be in the water this weekend? Never made it there week before last, but thinking about going up Sunday the 22nd........ Was orginally thinking about Saturday but sounds like it's going to be a wee bit windy!

Sorry PBR and waterbaby, we're planning to drain the lake this weekend.:D

Paugus Bay Resident 10-20-2006 07:21 AM

Nice try :) Actually, based on the current at Lakeport a few days ago, it looked like the dam wasn't even open.

If you check out Bizer's chart, it looks like the lake is up a few inches, since bottoming out a few weeks ago. This is because the dam is almost off and we've had some rain. The dam is closed to allow the draw down of Opechee and Winnisquam. The draw down ends 10/23.

Oh good, maybe we'll see you there! I'll be in a 27' Cobalt -- boat name "Bear" in gold leaf on the dark green transom. And you?

Rinkerfam 10-20-2006 09:28 PM

Alton Bay Bob,

Congrats!! Isn't the gang at Paugus Bay Marina the best? We have been rack storing there for the last two seasons. Friends of ours bought a 20' Bryant from them this past spring and love it.

Enjoy!

Paugus Bay Resident 10-20-2006 09:32 PM

Waterbaby, Sea Ray Sundancer (pewter). Based on the way the wind is right now, Sunday may be a better option :( Its supposed to let up by tomorrow afternoon, but it is really howling pretty good right now. Temp 40 and a couple of shots of lightning a few hours ago. But, what the heck, there's still water in the lake so ... :D

Waterbaby 10-21-2006 02:04 PM

No More Boating

:( Grrrrrr........ won't be going out on the water anytime soon, Bear has been winterized! I just called the marina to see, just in case, lol - they said it's been so cold at night they've been winterizing cause they didn't want to take the chance. That's ok with me, better that than a frozen block! Oh well, see ya'll in April or May!

Dd anyone make it out on the lake today? I can't imagine it was much fun putting the boat away today!

Today 21 Oct. will be a day to recall. I went out in the rough water, and then headed for the bay. Pulled the boat and after finish closing the camp headed south for the winter. However recall I said south, that could be FL but not, I went back to connecticut.

For those still in the water, be careful, as boats pull out your chances of breakdown becomes greater. Laws of probability.

Paugus Bay Resident 10-21-2006 08:32 PM

Yep, briefly in a 12' beam boat. Pretty nasty:eek: . Hopefully tomorrow will be a bit calmer.

Yes, I did go out on Sat. You're correct, it was not fun but I had to take the boat to it's winter home @ Shep's. I only wish I could have waited until today. Twas just as cold but nowhere near as rough. The passage from Rattlesnake to the vicinity of Glendale was about as much pounding as my old bones could take. From there to Meredith, not so bad. Now it's time to start counting the days until next Spring. That and getting into proper mushing shape. :D

Beautiful Day on the Lake

Went out yesterday, and had the lake almost to myself. Just a few boats around the Weirs. Left from Lakeport Landing and went over to some friends place on Cow Island, near the Hole in the Wall. Usually takes me about an hour to get there, I was there in 20 to 30 minutes tops. Cruised around Long Island then by the Post Office on Bear. Started getting a little chilly on the ride back as the sun dissapeared behind the clouds, but being able to cruise at about 18/20 mph without any trouble soo relaxing.

Boat should be in for a couple of more weeks, hope to get at least one more ride in.

Boating wrapped up for another year

We dropped off the boat for storage on Sunday and pulled the dock out. The last ride was beautiful, if a bit cool. There was still quite a bit of color on the trees. This morning, the lake near us (by Ganzy Island) was dead calm and beautiful. We got visited by a loon who was diving for a while in front of the house. My wife has been trying to get a picture of one rearing up with it's wings spread and this one pulled the antic right in front of us but she didn't have her camera handy. Oh well, there's always next year.

Hallnit 10-25-2006 03:30 PM

I hope everyone has a safe winter and Ice out is around the corner.

We ended our longest season ever yesterday. :(

We put in the day after Easter.. The lake was almost flat... and we could see the snow on Mt Washington and passed the Mount for a nice way to end the boating season.

Last Cruise of the season

I took my last cruise yesterday. :( What a great day with many great views and lots of sun and no waves.
The boat was winterized as soon as I pulled back in. They gave me no chance to change my mind.
I took a few shots and posted them on PhotoPost. This is Jolly Island Landing.

Went to the Mount cruise last night by boat. The lake was clam and it actually felt warm out. Supposed to be in the mid-60s on Tuesday, so there's still some boating to do :)

I ended my boating season today. This was an awesome weekend. The water was dead calm, the loons were very active. The weather was like it is in late September. Definetly a bonus weekend. This season for me was the longest as well. I put in on April 1st.

Formula 206,

What a bonus. November boating with temperatures in the 60's. My brother has a Formula 357SR1 rack stored at Paugus Bay Marina.
