My boat came out Sunday the 24th. Who else is out and who has plans to push the envelope?

Last year I had to break through 1 1/5" of skum ice to get the old Misty to the launching ramp. I guess that I'm just an old codfish.

Probably mid-October. We were out yesterday and it was beautiful. It is incredible to have the lake to ourselves.

I hope to stay in until late November. There are still some beautiful days left. Also, I have the advantage of being in a boat house.

Historically, it is usually a workday, working off site that day
![]() and it is usually the day before the first snowstorm is predicted. I guess I have a hard time letting go of the boating season. I have pictures from I think 2 years ago of my son scraping 3" of snow off the cover with a Santa hat on ![]() Slow Fall foliage cruises with my wife and a bottle of wine are the best!!! ![]() |

We have to be out of GYC by the end of October so as long as I can find a place in Smith Cove to leave the boat for a few additional weeks we will keep them in until mid-November.

Do you late season boaters ever have trouble with freezing engine blocks?

The 24 footer comes out soon, and the 21 stays till my marina demands it as it is getting too cold to properly clean the bottom. I am fortunate in that has a closed cooling system with antifreeze so no worries. The last one will be in November, small outboard. The last 2-4 weekends, I leave the camp ready for winter and rough it when we go up. Last year, it was a good thing as I waited too long and the ice was in between the boat and the camp. Pull the outboard out at a neighbor where they are in a channel and does not freeze. I am way up towards Lees Mills and we freeze early but out early also. Last two years, have been back in late March.

Today looks like it would be a great day for a boat ride. If anyone makes it out on the pond today, please let those of us whose boats are high and dry know how it was!

secondcurve, You are right, it was a beautiful day for our last boat ride. It wasn't planned, but since it was so warm, we couldn't resist a little spin first . It was so calm in the broads and not much boat traffic. Now our boats are all out. A sad time for us.

Today and yesterday were great. The colors are starting to come in. Went to Meredith yesterday afternoon and there were 2 or 3 boats at the town docks. Only negative is that its getting dark so early
![]() Haven't seen the dam statistics, but the current around Lakeport has gotten quite a bit stronger over the last week. |

secondcurve,
I took my farewell ride today. It wasn't as sunny as I'd hoped, but the air was warm and the water was calm. All in all it was a great season. Now it's time to gather up the ski gear and wait for the "other" season to begin. I'll be counting the days to the '07 season (my 24th on the big lake).

Wow. It sounds like yesterday was as perfect as I pictured, but I think today we are going back to reality! I just heard the weather and temps are expected to be down 20 degrees day over day and quite windy as well! Ouch. At least it looks like the weekend is going to be nice, cool but sunny. I have a feeling that there will be a lot of boats hauled out this weekend. Only the real hardcore boaters will be left next Tuesday.

Since Silver Sands gas dock was closed most of the season so many boaters discovered that right next door the MVYC gas dock was open to the public. There were also very many that had no clue that Mt. View's gas dock and ship's store was open to the public. Although it's at MVYC the gas dock and store are run by Irwin Marine.

Lakeport Landing? Places on the Gilford side of the lake, are there any gas docks open during the week?
I am going up during the week (my days off) to pull the boat (another sad day) but if it's a nice day then we may take a ride and burn gas that will need to be replaced! So...how far do I have to travel during the week from MVYC to get gas? |

Airwaves--
All of the standard Marina's (gas docks) over in the Wiers area should be open during the day (weather permitting) i.e Anchor, Channel Marine,

Tomorrow we pull my fathers boat and will relaunch TAT'S IT. It has been out of the water for about four weeks had a moring cover made, and I've been away. Be good till the 21st and then its out for the season in NH. Might try the CT river before the winter starts though.

I stopped by the town docks at Wolfeboro today at 3PM and realized I put my boat away way too early! There were several boats waiting for dockage just like a midsummer day and the line at the ice cream stand was 8-people deep! I have made a mental note to myself for next year.

SC, We must have been there at the same time. Did you notice all the empty spaces inside. There were about equal to the circling boats.
![]() My boat is in the water but mothballed for the winter. I was tempted to take it for 1 last ride but realized my family had worked to get it ready for storage. Next weekend boating in the warmth of FL

FlBoater:
I did note the inside spots. Some of the big cruisers that were tied up on the ends of the docks scared folks away. It's too bad that you couldn't get out for one more ride. Then again, I'm not going to feel all that bad for you since you will be boating in Florida next week!! Good for you. Have a nice trip down. What month do you come back to NH? |

My normal schedule is Oct 15 to May 15 in FL but this year I am building a new house in Wolfeboro and moving into it by Xmas. Oct-Nov are the best months in FL if the hurricanes don't get us. I think this year the Babes danced for us because so far so good.

Wow, yesterday was our last day on the water, but what a day! Soooo glad we went out. Was rather shocked at how little dock space there was in Meredith at lunch time. Had to squeeze into a tight spot between two boats, only to discover many closed restaurants... Was hoping for a nice, "sit down" meal but ended up having pizza since we were hungry and did not want to look too hard for a place to eat.
Boat's all Winterized now. Had a great season without a single mishap or mechanical problem. Came close to a mishap yesterday, though. Almost missed going around the south side of the southern most red-topped spar northwest of Dow Island, as I was coming from the north side of Dow, by Perch Island. Saw the spar at the last second and made a quick turn to get around the proper side of it. Phew, kind rocky on the worng side of it... |

Boy Lakegeezer, you did have it made. We we're hiking Locke's hill yesterday afternoon and when we stopped at the glades I was surprised to see more sail boats than power boats!

Monday was like a summer day out cruising about. More boats than I expected for this time of year. We did some leaf peeping and are hoping to get another tour in before weeks ends. Still a bit before peak color I think. Not sure when the boat comes out, perhaps this weekend but more likely in the next 2. Gotta love the weather so far this week !

I could not believe the good weather this weekend. TATS IT went back in Sat and what a joy. And their was a lot of boats on the lake this weekend and it appeared that everyone behaved themselves. Two more weekends, do you suppose I'd be pushing it asking for repeat of the weather?

It was a great day on the lake! We enjoyed skiing and boarding, ice cream in Wolfboro and spotting a bald eagle soaring over head. The only regret was I forgot the camera and left it on the seat of the truck.
Maybe it was the last chance to enjoy playing in the water, but I'll sign up for more days like yesterday, so we'll hold off on putting the boat away for two more weeks. |

Monday was the perfect weather for a sail. Great afternoon wind, warm temps and very few boats out on the water, especially compared to Sunday.

Well -- with a week-end to die for (weather wise) we finally called it quits
![]() Now the oficial mourning begins and will probably last a good 6 months as the boat sits on a lonely rack with nothing to do but compare experiance's of the summer past with the boat racked on eithor side. All in all -- another great season !! 135 hours logged in on the hour meter this season (down from 155 last season) -- take THAT all you folks who want to claim I'm a "tourist" from Masssachusetts !! and that doesn't include all the hours anchored at sandbars or parked at the Town docks while supporting the local economy...... Don't get me wrong -- We love it here. For those who haven't pulled yet, I found out an astonishing fact this week-end With the debate on where to leave your fuel level now that Ethenol has been introduced into the gas -- I found out (from the serv mgr at our Marina) that no Ethenol added fuel has been used on the lake -- it still remains MTBE. Evidently, all the fuels north of Manchester are delivered from Portland versus the Revere, Ma facilities ---- Portlands fuels have "yet" to convert. So leave your gas tanks where-ever (full / empty / 1/4 tank, whatever).

For our family summer starts when the boat goes in the water (usually before Memorial Day) and ends when it comes out (usually around Columbus Day).
For us the end of summer was today. We made one last trip to Fay's, fired up trusty Volvo Penta, and slowly motored our way to Glendale. By 10AM the deed was done. The boat was hauled home by way of a gas station (filled the tank and added some Stabil). By 2PM the colling system had been flushed, the engine fogged, the engine and stern drive oil changed, and the fuel and oil filters changed. Now it's the cosmetic work needing taking care of. Got to acid wash the hull to clean off the scum, wash down the rest of the boat and maybe, just maybe, get a coat of wax on her. Already I'm thinking about next summer..... |

Mother nature sure has a sense of humor. No sooner did I pull my sailboat out, we had a beautiful day, in the 50's, with a moderate southern sailing breeze. Here I sit with two wet feet and no sailboat to exploit the wind.

What a beautiful day on the lake today. I've told myself that I'd do a fall foliage trip one of these years and today was beautiful. The foliage may have been past peak but it was still a beautiful day on the lake. I left the boat at the marina to get winterized so till next year!

We are scheduled for later in the week, not sure of our place on the list for haulout. I was talking to Mighty Moe on Columbus Day, he told me a story about a girl who called him for help on Thanksgiving Day a few years ago. She hit a rock....she was out on the boat without her Dad's permission. I bet that turkey didn't taste all that good!

As always, I returned my 1984 Thompson in early September to the marina because of low water near my doock. This past weekend however, my wife and I were out in beautiful Paugus Bay enjoying the foliage with the great folks from Paugus Bay Marina in a new Bryant 219 bowrider. Whether it was the crisp air, the beautiful leaves, or a great boat... We did it! We bought it. If anyone sees a new Bryant bow rider in Alton area next spring say Hi. (I'll probably spend half the spring practicing docking it)

Took the boat in this morning for its winter rest. Of course, the rain had stopped and the Broads were like glass. About half the loons I saw had their winter plumage, I guess it really is time.

Evidently, all the fuels north of Manchester are delivered from Portland versus the Revere, Ma facilities ---- Portlands fuels have "yet" to convert. So leave your gas tanks where-ever (full / empty / 1/4 tank, whatever).[/QUOTE]
Phantom: It is possible that this statement is true for marina's, but it is not for regular gas stations. I think all the stations coming up 28 have ethol in it. That is where I first spotted it. I do not shop for gas at the marina's one thing good about having an outboard with auxilary tanks. This is my last weekend of boating this year, and it won't be much more than pulling the boat on Sat. I am hoping to put it in the conn river in Conn for a few hours but that will be about it. |

Alton Bay Bob,
Congrats!! Isn't the gang at Paugus Bay Marina the best? We have been rack storing there for the last two seasons. Friends of ours bought a 20' Bryant from them this past spring and love it. Enjoy!

Went out yesterday, and had the lake almost to myself. Just a few boats around the Weirs. Left from Lakeport Landing and went over to some friends place on Cow Island, near the Hole in the Wall. Usually takes me about an hour to get there, I was there in 20 to 30 minutes tops. Cruised around Long Island then by the Post Office on Bear. Started getting a little chilly on the ride back as the sun dissapeared behind the clouds, but being able to cruise at about 18/20 mph without any trouble soo relaxing.
Boat should be in for a couple of more weeks, hope to get at least one more ride in. Bill |

We dropped off the boat for storage on Sunday and pulled the dock out. The last ride was beautiful, if a bit cool. There was still quite a bit of color on the trees. This morning, the lake near us (by Ganzy Island) was dead calm and beautiful. We got visited by a loon who was diving for a while in front of the house. My wife has been trying to get a picture of one rearing up with it's wings spread and this one pulled the antic right in front of us but she didn't have her camera handy. Oh well, there's always next year.

We ended our longest season ever yesterday.
![]() We put in the day after Easter.. The lake was almost flat... and we could see the snow on Mt Washington and passed the Mount for a nice way to end the boating season.

Went to the Mount cruise last night by boat. The lake was clam and it actually felt warm out. Supposed to be in the mid-60s on Tuesday, so there's still some boating to do

I ended my boating season today. This was an awesome weekend. The water was dead calm, the loons were very active. The weather was like it is in late September. Definetly a bonus weekend. This season for me was the longest as well. I put in on April 1st.

Who is still in the water? I was surprised by the number of boats I saw in the water at 19-mile Bay this weekend. What a day Saturday must have been on the lake.

Just a little reminder...many boating policies have a navigation layup period, typically from Nov 1 to Apr 1, where in exchange for a reduction in premium, there is no coverage for a boat in the water during that time.
If you don't know and the boat's in the water still, better check it out quick. ![]() The "Upthesaukee" is out of the "Saukee"...hope it has a good winter...but it better not head south on me ![]()

I pulled my boat out on Columbus Day weekend, after I realized I was supposed to be out of my slip by Oct 1st.
Of course on Saturday I got a call from a couple wanting to elope out on the lake. Crap! No boat. We decided on the gazebo at Church Landing instead. It's over the water, just not in it. While I was waiting for the couple to arrive, a yahoo at the town docks pulled away at rocket speed and did the equivalent of a wheelie around the 150 ft buoy. Then he sped over to the ramp to pull his boat out. I'm all for the last hoorah for the season but just 'cause it's November doesn't mean you can break the rules! ugh. ![]() |

Secondcurve,
You were asking who's boats are still in, mine is and could be for a week or 2 more. I'm at Lakeport Landing in one of the boat houses. I keep it there year round. I asked at the office yesterday when they were going to start lifting them and was told it would be this week or next. I could get in another ride or two, my only concern now is gas, as not to many gas docks are open on the weekend. Can't wait for next year, Bill |

It was a sad day, this weekend to close up the cottage. Well I was happy to get 7 months on the lake house. The town of Gilford didn't get as good a deal on my taxes as last year.
![]() Then I used my excuse to get an SUV and hauled the boat home for the winter. I am thankful for another great boating season and to mother nature for holding the winter weather off a few weeks. I hope everyone has a great winter. |

Cruised for a while today, Saturday. So peaceful it felt like it did many years ago. The sun and light breeze made for a delightful trip.
But alas this may be the last until next year. I am rummaging around for the fogger and related materials for the winter. Ran some Sta-bil through today but wondering if I should drain off what little fuel I have and start fresh next year. Maybe I could burn some more tomorrow.... |

I'd like to hear from anyone that got out on the big lake today. 55 degrees and minimal wind! What a reward for the die hard boaters who are still in the lake. I'm two months out of the water at this point!!! I'm definitely going to reconsider my take-out date next year.

We continued our annual ritual of spending Thanksgiving weekend at the lake as our "last hurrah" before pulling the Montauk for the season. Ten weeks 'til ice-in??
The weather on Friday, Saturday & Sunday was nothing short of spectacular! Felt more like early October than late November. Didn't even get below freezing at night so we had running water this year! The sky Friday night was really clear too, making for some fine star-gazing. Mount Washington was very clear in the distance, but missing the snow of a few weeks back. Saw 5 boats and 1 barge in 3 days. A few diving ducks (not loons) were still around but otherwise the lake was both calm and very quiet. I love this time of the year. My son wants to do Christmas at the camp next year.... Sounds like a plan.... |

We drove up Friday to check out the house (in case we forgot to do something when we closed), it was spectacular weather. I'm almost sorry we closed for the winter.
Only 18 weekends until we ropen, 20 until the boat goes back in! I really miss the Lake, it is a special place. |

It was sort of odd hanging Christmas lights this weekend with boats in the bay.

I pulled our last boat yesterday after one last trip to the island. I had to break through a skim of ice leaving the dock at GYC yesterday afternoon. I was quite surprised to see ice at all the way the weather has been...
The lake was flat calm and in the low 50's. I saw one lone sail boat in the broads and Mink Islander's montauk tied to their dock on the way by, not much else stirring on any of the islands we passed. I will probably make one or two more trips out to watch work progess on the island, although it will be on a borrowed boat. |

I am at GYC too, its a Club Rule not Town of Gilford. As you will see on the notice posted at the club the boats must be out by a certain date if Dave is taking them out. It says right there if the boat is left in after that date then you have to make arangements to have it hauled out elsewhere
