I’ll take a look at them. If they are fiction I might give them a try. I haven’t been able to read non-fiction for a lot of years. I tried “Killing Patton” but thought it was too much work for too little new information.

cleaned and organized my studio, did some painting, working on learning our new way of living. My husband and I are both "high risk" so we are hunkering down, not going out at all and will not for a long time. I"m going to start a journal about all this as I like to write too. Struggling with taking this all in. But all in all, I"m keeping busy and trying to focus on staying positive and strong.

What is everyone doing?

Being grateful for this website and being able to visit and chat and read the treasure trove of info here, as always.

With my age and things my Longtime Primary Care Doctor has advised and told me to stay at home while the Pandemic is upon us. I can still help by listening, by phone calls and the internet here at home.

I'd also like to say Hi to all my Friends here, and Y'all stay safe!!
Love Y'all,
Terry

Can only find “The Rosie Project” as an audio book at the North of Boston Library group. The premise sounds cute but I’m a “read books, listen to music” type unless I’m on a long drive. I’ll save it for my next trip to the lake.

No doubt millions of others are doing the same (anyone who has extra money and is willing to take the risk probably should consider doing so).

I was too timid back when thinks tanked over a decade ago: I still kick myself for not buying Ford when it was trading at 1 7/8 a share.

Yes, my guess is many are doing the same. We are. :)

We had my brothers and their families over last night. My son and his girlfriend came up from Cambridge. Great food, drink and company. With all this cabin fever, everyone was in a partying mood. Don't tell anyone, but we had 12 people at our home. I hope we didn't break any laws! :rolleye1:

I broke a tooth last Tuesday, and got my dentist to see me on this upcoming Tuesday. As of right now, I have a regularly scheduled doctor's appointment on Thursday for my annual physical. I went to Laconia Clinic on Friday for bloodwork. The Clinic was pretty empty.

My broker called Thursday and asked if he could move money targeted for 15 years out to purchase value.

Talking about a 6am run to a market for some supplies...been eating venison and landlocked salmon from the freezer...would welcome a good ol’ bacon cheeseburger about now! I heard that the Tilton stores are only opening early for seniors on Tuesday. Going to be plowing 6-10” of snow Tuesday morning if the forecast pans out...walking the dog several times a day on our remote property...plenty of “social distance” between us and neighbors...;)

Probably nowhere near it should be but then again not many are disciplined enough to live below their means and save. This is why there is a growing wealth gap in this country.

You know we'll disagree on the reason for the wage gap, so I'll leave it at agreeing with "nowhere near it should be."

All of you would have been safe if there had been only 10. As soon as you added the 11th, all were doomed. You probably should have had two at a time sit outside, six feet apart, with someone inside appointed to rotate people in and out regularly. But, wait! All may have been safe if the extra two were inside, but all were six feet apart. Hmmm... maybe?? I'll bet there is a new phone app that would use the GPS on visitors' phones, all linked in a local net, track separation distances in real time, and buzz the phones that encroached on separation distance. Arrrgh!! How long have I been this way?

Just to clarify - I said wealth gap not wage gap.

You do not need to have a big wage to save and thus generate wealth. However saving is required and that takes discipline. ;)

We had some good luck in the last recession. We got a good tip on Las Vegas Sands. We bought it for around three dollars a share and sold it at around $60. That was a really great tip! That one stock gave us enough money to be able to move to Florida.

Anybody have some really good suggestions as to what they’re putting their money in this time around? We’ve never been risk averse, even though we’re at the age that we should be.

Last time around utilities were in demand because of the reliable dividends and low returns on CD's and T-bills. The result was that stodgy things became growth stocks (NEE, AEP, etc) That may be true again. Historically, utilities traded more like bonds, but when interest rates are really low, reliable dividends are important. I follow "Morningstar Dividend Investor."

losing self motivation

After a 10 days of cleaning, painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, I'm struggling to get self motivated.
I have two homes and lots of things to do but it seams endless without the normal socialization and it's getting tiresome.
My Home Depot and Amazon bills are going to be going to be very large next month!
I'm getting a lot done but I can't wait to get back to a normal busy. :(
With that said, I'm off to the bathroom to re-grout and paint, fun, fun, fun?

The Real BigGuy 03-26-2020 03:44 PM

My wife is having “drinks with the girls” once a week using the free ZOOM app. 6 or 7 participants and goes for the full 40 min of alloyed free time. I was going to do it with my friends but figured the call would last 5 min before we ran out of things to say.

Spousal Distancing

When I started to work from home a few weeks ago I had already set up my own desk, chair and monitors in my wife’s WFH office. But after a week I decided to move my stuff to my own space. It’s difficult to share a space 24 hours a day. I spend a lot of time on the phone and it was too distracting for my wife. We’re now on opposite ends of the house and it’s much better. And then after work we do all our other stuff together. It’s good practice for when we retire.

The real question was about how our golden would react. How was she going to deal with the distancing? Other than the first hour Molly has been by my side except when I’m in the bathroom and then she goes to my wife and makes whining noises. It’s nice to be missed!

YUP! Having mutual time working at home with my significant other has proven THIS to be so!

Life is short

Life is too short to allow yourself to get bored, but it’s difficult to figure out something productive to do that’s manageable. Since we’re supposed to be in isolation pretty much, doing something for others is a challenge. I have thought about knitting hats for cancer patients, but don’t have enough materials except for a few. If I decide to organize my spices alphabetically, then it’s time for the loony bin! Any positive suggestions are welcome. Can’t do heavy lifting.

We've been remotely meeting with family, reading books, taking long walks, and enjoying cooking and playing games.

Another thing I've really enjoyed is pulling out old CDs and sitting and listening to them like I've not been able to do in a long while (in another life, I was an A/V salesman).

Finally, my kids have been out in the back yard for a long while creating their own "camps" with extra tarps and hammocks.

There's no doubt that this is horrible in most respects, but it's really reminded me of the simple joys I used to love.

Take care, friend.

Anyone else worried about putting on the "COVID-19"? My daughter is home and bakes cookies, muffins, brownies, etc. almost everyday. Too easy to stop work and take a quick snack break!:D

what is everyone doing

I've been walking around the house for the last three weeks asking my husband what day it is.

Last night I said, You know, I need those underpants I used to have when I was a little girl with hearts and the days of the week on them-

He looked at me and said: you'd be wearing the wrong day anyway, it doesn't matter.

sigh

This got me thinking. I have a ton of old cassette tapes from the 70’s that I have always wanted to digitize. Now I’ve got the time. I have an old cassette deck & an old tuner. Now I need a analog to digital gizmo to connect to my computer. Ahhh, more time I can waste on the internet searching.

Reading

I'm on book #14 of the Vince Flynn (author) Mitch Rapp series which was recommended in another thread on this forum by another member. Thanks!!

Was able to download most of them via Libby app from my library and others were found on eBay as a partial set of paperbacks. Great read.

..... local tennis is happening

All the local public tennis courts, today-Tuesday April 14 had tennis players, playing tennis. Holderness, and Moultonborough had just two people, each, and Meredith had about ten players on their six courts.

Today was a sunny, warm, beautiful day to go hit those tennis courts, and a great day for the race! ..... :)

Fun physical outdoor sports, sunshine, and warmer weather are the arch enemy of the covid-19 virus. Is impossible to catch it while is so much fun smashing a tennis ball ..... backhand ..... forehand ..... overhead ..... or a drop~shot ..... tennis to the rescue!
