Now that sports are canceled and large gatherings are banned, etc. what is everyone doing for entertainment? I’ve started reading again.

We are still going out to our favorite places. Just keeping some distance and washing. Local business need the support but we have to vigilant. I went to Walmart today in Gilford. There were definitely some blown out sections but overall the store had tons of food and medical supplies.

I'll be hanging with my kids and getting our exercise outdoors instead of at the Y. Also, a beach trip and a couple hiking trips.

At night, board games and movies by the wood stove. My kids are into Risk right now, and I'm gonna foster that!

That's not the only thing selling like like hotcakes. Guns and bulk ammo are flying off the shelves.

Not exactly sure what people are thinking but seriously I hope we are not on the verge of anarchy. Bass Pro did have a pretty good price on bulk 1000 round cases of 9MM. Limited to one case per customer while supplies last.

Tonight, went out to O’s thinking it might be a bit slow for a Saturday. Good to say I was wrong. Full restaurant and bar. Had to wait for a table. Was told it was the same last night. Many summer folks are back for the next two weeks due to Mass closing their schools.

I retired in December after 41 years of public service to the Community in which I live. I’ve pretty much been in isolation attempting to pick away at the honey do list for the past 76 days. The next few weeks will be no different....🙄😷

Herd immunization, take those that are in the best health and condition to survive this and expose them to it. Let them build a natural immunity to it. Novel idea. This would effectively slow it's uncontrolled spread as there would be far less targets to infect.

On paper and in theory this sounds plausible. Definitely a different approach.

We just moved/retired here a little over a month ago and have been in the house doing some needed projects. Of course, we made a lot of trips to Lowes and elsewhere to purchase things, but essentially have been home working and taking care of business, establishing ourselves as new residents and so forth.

Now we were hoping to establish a life that we envisioned and get out and about and be social. Join some groups, etc. Ain't happening.

So, we continue to stay in with just occasional trips to the grocery store or bank or post office. We are on the internet a lot and watch TV. I read a little. I take walks and I do exercise a bit also. My husband is getting bored and I am a bit antsy. We only can do so many projects. Thank goodness we essentially are home bodies, but this is overkill for us and we ain't get any younger! I can't imagine people that hate staying put having to stay home.

I really need a haircut- haven't had one since we left NY (hubby had one last week) and I do want to go out and buy maple syrup this week. We are expecting a new mattress delivery within the next week or so and also have to go back to Lowes to order a storm door installation. That's our big excitement.

It's funny. We were just saying in times like these we were better off in our former compound in NY on 10 1/2 acres in isolation, with a huge freezer and pantry/bunker/food storage and water and game on the property and with our medical team in place already. Hubby will be needing high blood pressure medication and does have an appt. with a new doc in another week. I hope he can get his medication supply with no issues. You just never know what life will bring you.

The liability a community would have is off the charts. With that said, the isolation thing is concerning to me. Are we just expanding the life of this virus by keeping everyone away. The assumption being made is that the virus dies off without a host. Are we sure about that? If it lives longer then one believes then this issue is around for awhile. Then the sh&$ does hit the fan. Yes, there are two micro biology majors in the family so I have a small bit of knowledge here

With no sports we started watching the '04 Red Sox championship run on DVD!!! T-bones in Hudson at lunch yesterday seemed just a little slow, but still steady.
My wife is a teacher and is out for two weeks, our son, 3 yo, has no day care for 2 weeks either. So she is now going to be the day care for all the others that need to still work as normal.

Glad to hear the restaurants are busy. We closed down on March 2nd took our entire staff to Florida for two weeks. We will be returning for business Wednesday. I was concerned that I would have to promote a free roll of toilet paper with the purchase of half-price martinis.

Seems many are not paying attention to the directions coming out from national sources. This is serious. It is not a vacation as some may be thinking with schools shut. It is meant to keep people from congregating and intends for them to STAY HOME....not fill restaurants, movie theaters, shopping malls, etc. Sorry, but it really concerns us. MA certainly has stepped up things faster and more aggressively than NH. Some will disagree and that is fine. This is just my opinion.

I never said it wasn’t a problem I just think there is an amount of overreacting. Everyone needs to be vigilant and for some it’s quarantine for others it’s hygiene and sanitizing while trying to maintain some semblance of their lives. To each his own.

If not airborne (I believe it is airborne as well as other means of transmission!) , why are health care workers dressed masks, gloves, face shields, plastic suits, (covered head to toe), etc. etc. ? Why are we being told to stay 6 ft away in social distancing if all the concern is just from touching? Why are people told how to sneeze and cough to avoid airborne droplets? Yes indeed, airborne it is, as well as from touching infected surfaces and people. It is HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS!

Completely out of precaution. Again show me where in writing the CDC says it is airborne and I will consider it. I have yet to find it but maybe I am missing something.

To what end? Are we going to shut this country down indefinitely while everyone stays at home cowering in fear? Easy for career politicians to say as they don't have a real job you have to show up to and be productive on a daily basis. Doctors well they often times give unrealistic recommendations as well.

Isolating yourself from this is futile. It's not a matter of if but when you are exposed. Simple as that. Isolation may buy you two things, a little time and a false sense of security.

I continue to go to work, if I get sick I will stay home get better or die, depending on which will determine where I am this summer, at the lake or 6 feet under. For now planning on the lake.

No it is not airborne. It is contracted from droplets that fall on surfaces, including being coughed or sneezed on. This is different from just breathing in the air around you and contracting a virus.

I really don't care if it's air born or not. You can't be cautious enough and who is to say that everyone is taking the same precautions as I am.
If we didn't take these precautions we could end up like Italy so it's not unreasonable for the news media to get the word out.
The only way you can prevent panic is not to release information and that's worse. It eventually comes out with even worse results.
We don't want to be like China and only give out information that they want us to hear.

I hope all the fears and concerns are unfounded. My best guess is that ultimately those who feel all the precautions were necessary will end up saying “see, I told you so. These actions minimized the outbreak”. Those who think they are unnecessary will say, “see, I told you so. The outbreak was not the end of the world and the majority escaped unscathed.”

I’m not concerned for myself or my kids. I am concerned for my parents who are high risk. Because of my concern for them, I am taking steps to minimize my exposure so I don’t pass along the virus to them. And, I am discouraging them from being in public places where they might be exposed. Am I being too careful? Maybe, but for their sake I would rather be safe than sorry.

I'm going to be 66 in a few months. I'm not completely isolating myself but I am trying to avoid crowded areas. As you get older it takes a lot longer to get over illnesses. I get a flue shot every year because if I get the flue I'm down and miserable for at least two weeks. So if I can take precautions to prevent me from getting sick and being miserable for two weeks it's worth it, along with the additional benefit of not passing it along to others.

Fort Lauderdale and Miami have just closed their beaches starting immediately and in effect until April 12. Bars and restaurants are asked to only be at 50% capacity.

Got an email from the Meredith Community Center today, Sunday, that it will be closed and locked from tomorrow, March 16 through March 29, so that means no indoor pickleball on Tuesday and Friday, from 9-11. All events, programs, and drop-ins are cancelled through March 29.

The one exception is the Select Board meeting on Monday, March 16 will be held as usual.

As you may know, the four Moultonborough tennis courts are ready to play; nets up, no snow, winter debris cleaned; so who wants to play pickleball or tennis on Tuesday and Friday from 9-11 until March 29, outdoors in Moultonborough? Be there, or be a square!

So, what's the difference between indoor pickleballs and outdoor pickleballs? Outdoor pickleballs have much smaller holes for less wind resistance.

And, what's the difference between indoor tennis balls and outdoor tennis balls?

From reading posts here and on other sites it appears that a lot of folks don’t seem to understand that they can be infected and contagious and have no symptoms. If they have come in contact with the virus and, because they are not feeling sick, they go out into the general population they risk infecting others. I’m sorry, but I’m going to carry on just like I have with the other pandemic episodes the past twenty or so years, especially the much worse H1N1 virus of 2009. 1500 Americans died before we even recognized it.

Wow I cannot believe you are being criticized for taking off to Florida. I would think you are smart. Isn’t this virus supposed to be less likely to spread in warmer climates above 80 degrees?

Also why is this different from people coming to the lake because there is no work and school.

I don't claim to have any idea what the proper response to this is or if the whole thing is being blown out of proportion. I do worry that we are not as concerned as we should be about what this will do to the economy. A month or two of people sitting in their house will mean a severe recession and that will end up costing a lot of lives as well. Business destroyed and life savings lost will result in suicides, stress induced heart attacks, divorces..... Plunging government revenues will mean less money for other needs. (Maybe not as govt will just keep printing more) There are tradeoffs in everything. We lose tens of thousands of people a year in car accidents. We could end all of those deaths with a 10 MPH speed limit. We do not because the trade off has been judged to be not worth it.
If anything good comes from this it will be that in the end maybe people will understand that China is not our friend.
Also watching Trump in the last press conference was the first time I have seen him look exhausted. This must be taking quite a toll on him. I hope he gets some rest. He almost looked as out of it as Joe Biden on any day.

Here's some good news; the Route 93, Exit-25 Citgo in Holderness has regular gasoline for 2.169/gal. That's pretty danged low, plus it is a spacious large flat gas station across from the already green Plymouth State University athletic fields with a photo-scenic view, and the mute buttons on the pumps work.

Whatever you are doing, low priced gas is always a winner!

I am thinking of others. I'm working my ass off, providing jobs, along with my partners, to 55 people. Giving them the luxury of being able to take time off or to work from home so they can practice so-called "social distancing." (Which I hate because the left love it so much.) Received this message from one of our employees -- "Since the kids’ school is closed and we are practicing social distancing, I will be working from home." Well, I am glad he consulted us in his decision! This is not progress.

Of course you can catch it through the air, just by infected people breathing within a few feet of you. If contagion were only through surfaces, it couldn't possibly have become the pandemic that it is.

There's zero confusion among experts about this, and Gillygirl is absolutely right that any confusion is only about the nomenclature/terminology used by experts. Coronavirus germs are not “airborne” in the sense do not float in the air for long periods of time, but easily enough time to be inhaled by anyone nearby before they drop to surfaces.

My daughter-in-law is an infectious diseases and infection control specialist at a major hospital. Her brother is a pulmonary and primary doctor at a smaller hospital in a different city. They obviously both wear extreme protective gear at work and are scrupulous about what and how they touch any surfaces outside. He has just been diagnosed with the disease, which he could only have caught by inhaling it from someone when he was in streetwear. Fortunately, he's strong, otherwise healthy, and in his late 30s, so his case is expected to be mild-moderate, and he's quarantined in one particular area of his family's home — hopefully, his much more vulnerable parents-in-law, who live in the same home, didn't get it when he was incubating.

Anyone who can read the CDC info yet shrug off social-distancing should not share his obtuseness on public forums.

I own a business, went North Skiing with a friend who owns a business as well on Thursday night. Listened to him for three hours going off on how this is all an overreaction. The situation developed and the ski area closed after Saturday. Guess what I listed to for three hours all the way home? You guessed it - What are we going to do with our employees and protect ourselves.

For a not so comical situation it was quite comical to remind him of his shift in perspective.

We are taking common sense measures at work - good hygiene, limiting social activity and everyone knows if they even think they are sick to stay home. I have two people traveling, I am in contact to monitor their situations and if they think they are a risk they will stay home without question.

Once someone in a company contracts it, it's a shut-down for the business. You can't expect people to come into a building where there's been a case, it just won't happen. We live in the commercial / Industrial world and feel like if we can stay healthy this whole mess won't sting as much. I feel bad for the businesses that are taking a hit. Let's work to make sure things are as short lived as possible, no need to go into the Lake season with an economic slow down.

The problem is we acted too slow. There wasn't enough test kits in the US to check everyone that needed to be check so for weeks we've had people walking around feeling healthy but spreading the virus. We are going to be shocked at how many people test positive in the coming weeks because we now have an abundance of test sites coming on line. There is going to be financial pain in the coming months but that's where we need the government to step in and help. But I believe that if we didn't over react the fiscal and financial calamity would be much worse. Just look what's happening in Italy.

I wasn't referring anything to military service. There are little things that people do every day to help others. I was thinking more of small businesses. And by the way I've never said I was a war hero. I wasn't. Those who are on this Forum regularly know that. A good friend, a retired US Army Ranger, whose close friend also retired US Army Ranger living in Italy sent the following recommendations regarding the Corona virus. I thought it would be good to share here...


“From a good friend, retired from the Ranger Regiment, living in Italy who’s opinion I trust. Right now they are living what we’ll be experiencing in a few weeks.”

“A lot of people have been reaching out to me in the last couple days since we live in Veneto, one of the hardest hit areas in Italy with the COVID-19. A lot of well wishes, so thank you guys, but most followed with requests for advice since where we are, many places in the world will soon be. Here’s my advice:

- This is a real problem, so accept it. If you’re young you may never even show a symptom but you can be a carrier, and it's über contagious. You can carry it for up to two weeks, and think how many people you come in contact with during that time. Now each of them are also spreading it to everyone they encounter.

- Follow the social distancing guidelines and adhere to any quarantines. The government isn't out to get you. Not seeing grandma for the weekend won’t kill you or your kids, but it could kill her. The elderly have a very high death rate.
- Take precautions but don’t freak out. Losing the time away from school and work sucks, but the more everyone works together to do what’s right here, the faster it’ll go away and you'll in turn lose less time away.

- You’ll probably only be quarantined for about two weeks. Most Americans shop on a weekly basis, so as far as advice for groceries, just double what you normally get. If you’re worried about perishables, maybe buy more frozen, canned, and dry goods versus the fresh for the second week. If it’s anything like here, your grocery stores may still be opened, though regulated for safety. Keep in mind, however, that you’ll be stuck in the little area you’re allowed to move around in. Maybe you don’t need to eat the exact amount you normally do every week 😂

- It’s gonna get worse before it gets better. Once everyone goes on quarantine it has to work through the system. All those people who never showed symptoms but who were infected will eventually either have it pass, or will be hit hard and treated.

- You’re gonna be stuck at home and unable to do much outside for a couple weeks. Keep that in mind and stock up on books, games, and anything else that can help take your time. Especially if you have kids. You can finally binge watch all those shows you've wanted to. When it starts to suck and you wish you could just get off the couch, keep in mind that if it’s anything like here, there’s a lot of people that wish they were in your shoes. The emergency service personnel have zero days off. All police and healthcare workers are 100% activated, and they need our support as well.

- With the above point, be nice to the cops when they stop and question you. They haven't been able to go home and get good rest for a while. Any of us would be more grumpy than usual. Follow the guidance and a police stop is nothing but finally some social interaction.

- Lastly, if you get it don’t panic. Don’t rush to the ER unless that’s your individual protocol for your area. Most places have a call line to come help you. If you rushed to the ER when you first show symptoms you could pass it on to lots of unsuspecting people. Plus you'll get in the way of those healthcare professionals who are incredibly bogged down.

It's the media's job to work us into a frenzy. I heard someone on ABC say that this will bring out the worst in people. Yes it could, but from what we've seen it's brought out more of the best in humanity. Don't listen to those dumb babbling bobble-heads on screen! Fear and panic make great ratings, and it's been their job lately to divide us, so don't give those idiots any credence.

Out West in the heart of the outbreak lots of folks are very happy that cannabis is legal under state law and that the dispensaries are open.

Me, I am reading more, listening to music, and spending a lot of time on the internet, both for education and recreation.

It bothers me to keep away from my grandson and other family members but my wife and I have our lives to lose, so why chance it?

We are lucky -- we own our own business and run it from home. We have been discussing how happy we are having taken the plunge and leaving corporate-land (I worked for a Fortune 500 company for almost 20 years, where I met my husband) and commuting an hour each way. But best of all the "physical distancing" won't be much of a change for us as we are used to it. Just won't go out to eat (will do takeout as we want to support the local restaurants).

We did make it out to Wal-Mart and Shaw's today -- plenty of food, which is what we wanted (fresh veggies, some cheese). But, of course, no TP yet. In pinch it's easy enough to use napkins, paper towels when the TP runs out. Just can't flush it (septic system). Worst case is we cut up dog training pads to size as we have those, as well. Hopefully it won't come to that but if it does, we are prepared.

And the liquor store is FULLY STOCKED. Thank God for small miracles.
