If it's any measure - sure seems like NH has a ton of vehicles on the road sporting vet plates comparatively speaking. As a general rule those that have served, especially overseas for any period of time, tend to have a greater sense of patriotism.

VT in at #3 is a bit of a head scratcher!

Most of these surveys are done to benefit a certain group or interest. That's why you really can't believe any of them.
I just read one this morning, "The best place in every state for early retirement". NH's was Manchester, HA,HA,HA!

That said, recently I arrived at a humble neighborhood near and south of Rochester, and was very impressed with the quiet and neatness.

As to patriots the pollsters must be talking sports, as a New Hampshire poll from yesterday has put a Socialist ahead of everyone else.

Here's kind of a fitting story I experienced yesterday....Coming home to Gilford late yesterday afternoon in the pouring rain, I saw a small American flag in the middle of the route 11 bypass between Laconia and Gilford. It must have blown off someones motorcycle or similar...anyway, the person in front of me also spotted it and immediately pulled over, got out of his pickup and proceeded to pick that flag up off the ground in the pouring rain and bring it back to his truck.

Needless to say I beeped my horn and gave him a thumbs up!!

You have to wonder how many people would have just driven by or over it...

It made me feel good to know that SOME people still have respect for our flag and what it stands for and also made me think of this post.

As an fyi, this person had NH plates on his truck...

I live in Gilmanton (Corners). Every Memorial Day, the FD puts out flags on all the poles and they stay till after the 4th. A nice reminder.

No surprise about New York however remember NYC brings the state down as far as it's patriotism. Long Island and upstate New York are extremely patriotic.

On the other hand, retiring to NH's largest city would afford a retiree the opportunity to have access to arguably the best available medical care, both in Manchester and Boston (closer by).

That's an important, real world consideration as we start to age out.

The lack of top tier medical care in the lakes region could deter some from choosing to retire there, notwithsanding the beauty of the lakes and the surrounding environment.

Texas with 28-million residents is #46 on the patriotism list, and New Hampshire with 1.35-million residents is #1 on the list.

Is hard to believe?

What New Hampshire has is 400 state reps and 24 state senators who are basically unpaid and work as volunteers, plus a long history of local town volunteers which gets factored into the ranking for patriotism, and helps to make NH #1 according to this list.

Both #2 Vermont with 652,500 residents and #1 New Hampshire with 1,350,000 residents score big because these four criteria get divided into a smaller population than all the other states.

Is the same as selling one item at a loss, but making big money with volume sales by selling thousands of items also at a loss! ....

I would guess the metrics are fine. They are simple statistics. The only area that is debatable is the "weighting" of each statistic. The authors had the privilege of determining which statistics they thought deserved to be weighted more heavily than others.

For what it's worth, living in California, and having travelled the states, I think New Hampshire has a lot of patriotism and much more concern for the state's health (and those can end up being different interests I suppose). If this was a forum in California, I'd get some push back saying there's a lack of concern and patriotism, but, other than San Diego, and perhaps a little in Sacramento, there aren't too many who care for where the state has gone and is, and patriotism is there but in small doses. If it was a contest, I'd bet on N.H.

The thing I struggle with is there appears to be a lot of anger about where N.H. has gone. But I don't live there year-round so I have no right to judge. Still, all I see is a beautiful lake and incredible quiet, majestic beauty. I take my family back every year to the Lake because, for us, it's the best place on the planet.

Selling at a loss is selling at a loss so selling one item at a loss is far better in this scenario. Volume sales at a loss exponentially increases the loss times the number of items sold.

This is different than volume sales with a smaller profit margin per item versus trying to make a large profit on smaller total sales numbers.

Then again I'm not a business guy...

There are what’s called “loss leaders”. A high volume product sold at breakeven or a small loss to draw in consumers to purchase other high profit impulse items. A strategy used by supermarkets for years.

Right I get that concept but at the end of the day if the "loss leaders" are indeed sold at a loss that is not profitable when looking at the particular item in question exclusively. I got to believe that most of the "loss leaders" are sold at no less than actual acquisition cost. As it is overhead for retail is such and margins so tight to stay competitive selling anything at a loss is probably avoided.

Certain retail outlets are in a unique position to where they can take the chance customers will, since they are there, buy more than that one item.

In grocery, loss leaders are put in place to generate traffic. Either an incremental purchase or a "bait and switch".

In the weeks following the 9/11 attack, I saw many cars and trucks driving through New Hampshire's narrow roads flying American flags—some in pairs.

Really? if you watched the debate you'd get enough dribble to conclude that his bunch is not very patriotic-at least as I define it. It's hard to see how anyone embracing a socialist agenda is PRO America. Seems to me what has made this country great is pure unadulterated capitalism with all of its foibles and shortcomings.
