Both #2 Vermont with 652,500 residents and #1 New Hampshire with 1,350,000 residents score big because these four criteria get divided into a smaller population than all the other states.

Is the same as selling one item at a loss, but making big money with volume sales by selling thousands of items also at a loss! ....

All the metrics are percentages as in per 1,000. Total population gets normalized out. Just how were your math grades??

Selling at a loss is selling at a loss so selling one item at a loss is far better in this scenario. Volume sales at a loss exponentially increases the loss times the number of items sold.

This is different than volume sales with a smaller profit margin per item versus trying to make a large profit on smaller total sales numbers.

Then again I'm not a business guy...

There are what’s called “loss leaders”. A high volume product sold at breakeven or a small loss to draw in consumers to purchase other high profit impulse items. A strategy used by supermarkets for years.

Right I get that concept but at the end of the day if the "loss leaders" are indeed sold at a loss that is not profitable when looking at the particular item in question exclusively. I got to believe that most of the "loss leaders" are sold at no less than actual acquisition cost. As it is overhead for retail is such and margins so tight to stay competitive selling anything at a loss is probably avoided.

Certain retail outlets are in a unique position to where they can take the chance customers will, since they are there, buy more than that one item.

In grocery, loss leaders are put in place to generate traffic. Either an incremental purchase or a "bait and switch".

Really? if you watched the debate you'd get enough dribble to conclude that his bunch is not very patriotic-at least as I define it. It's hard to see how anyone embracing a socialist agenda is PRO America. Seems to me what has made this country great is pure unadulterated capitalism with all of its foibles and shortcomings.

As Winston Churchill once said, “The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries.”

I would guess the metrics are fine. They are simple statistics. The only area that is debatable is the "weighting" of each statistic. The authors had the privilege of determining which statistics they thought deserved to be weighted more heavily than others.

For what it's worth, living in California, and having travelled the states, I think New Hampshire has a lot of patriotism and much more concern for the state's health (and those can end up being different interests I suppose). If this was a forum in California, I'd get some push back saying there's a lack of concern and patriotism, but, other than San Diego, and perhaps a little in Sacramento, there aren't too many who care for where the state has gone and is, and patriotism is there but in small doses. If it was a contest, I'd bet on N.H.

The thing I struggle with is there appears to be a lot of anger about where N.H. has gone. But I don't live there year-round so I have no right to judge. Still, all I see is a beautiful lake and incredible quiet, majestic beauty. I take my family back every year to the Lake because, for us, it's the best place on the planet.

Exactly! Although one can certainly influence the other when certain political persuasions consider an outward sign of patriotism to be toxic.
