... and nary a drop to drink!
Our regions police officers, state troopers and firefighters, as well as the Electric company service crews have been kept busy throughout the night and into this morning with every manner of water-related emergencies. The scanner has been absolutely non-stop for about 14 hours with reports of basements flooded, roads washed out, trees down on wires, trees across roads, and even a landslide on Rt. 11 in Gilford! The towns of Alton and Sanbornton have been particularly hard-hit it would appear. Each has experienced a goodly number of roads flooded and or washed out completely. Residents in several places have been evacuated, while others are unable to evacuate due to impassible roadways. Electricity is or has been out in numerous locations around the region. If you have neighbors who are elderly or infirm, please make a point to check on them this morning. Check your own basements for flooding, and your properties for precarious trees. The wind is kicking up again, and more damage is expected as a result of saturated earth. While traveling today, be particularly careful of puddles - they may be deeper than they look, or could be disquising a washed-out section of road! Be safe, and be careful everybody!
