I'm not one to offer unsolicited advice, but you did ask! Several years ago, I stopped drinking and to get through the long winters, I bought a guitar and spent all the time I used to waste drinking watching you tube videos and teaching myself how to play. It's a fun, relaxing contstructive way to spend idle hours in the winter. There are hundreds of three and four chord songs you can download off the internet and play along with on the you tube videos. And, if you can find someone else to play with, it's even more fun and rewarding. Mental health professionals will tell you the happiest people are those who have music in their lives and I can attest to that! Who knows, we might be able to put together a forum group to get together and play and have a few laughs on cold winter weekends.......

AT this time of year, I would put it in and use it also. I agree with GBG. I couldn't wait until next spring!! WE got one delivered at Thanksgiving once and that was hard enough to wait!

Sounds like the slip is for next year, not this year hence the problem.

I'd find a temporary slip and put her in. You must know how it drives before you put it away for the winter. We're in up until Nov. You have two good months. Seize the day, you never know when it will be your last!

A couple of years ago we were in a similar situation. Borrowed a slip for 4 weeks in Sept-Oct.
If you don't use it now, how will you know which gadgets to buy at the Boat $how? And, at all those Christmas Office parties, nobody will believe you bought and didn't launch. The boss will question that decision, and that will end your career. Hold your breath, 3,2,1, LAUNCH!!! |

I am not impulsive...however in November 2003 we bought a house on Long Island without having been to the Lake before and in December bought a used 23 foot Sea Ray from Irwins consignment which we only saw in the indoor storage area. We still have both and love the Lake.
Sometimes you just have to go for it. That is often therapy in itself.

Good time of the year to use it for maybe another month when you can just for practice. Lake will be quiet and gives you some "practice" time. Not sure if this is your first or third boat so maybe the practice isn't necessary.

I look forward to soliciting advice from the folks on this forum as I establish my sea legs with this new class of boat. From my limited experience thus far on this forum my early impression is that you folks are a great group of people and an invaluable resource to boaters of all experience levels. |

We all need therapy of different types, in different doses, for different reasons. My advice to you is to live in the present, remember the past, and dream of the future, but don't let either the past or the future control your present.
Also, it is only a boat, a recreational toy. There must be other things in your life to keep your mind occupied during the next 7 months. Sure, everyone is happy and excited when buying a new boat, and can't wait to use it, but put it all in perspective. Oh, by the way, from my own experience, you are acting very normal, so don't worry about yourself. Enjoy next summer, in the meantime - Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! |
