Need Forum's feedback.
I have a 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe issue, and need Forum's feedback. FYI, Car only has 37k miles, equipped with the standard 2.4 cylinder engine. Today, when starting as usual, I press the brake pedal then press the Start button on console. I receive a message on Console display do the same, confused about that, as I had done what was asked ? I press the Start button again, and my console display lights up like the forth of July, Console then redisplays ‘press the brake pedal then press the Start button’ ? Car never starts, or even makes any attempt to do so. After all this occurs, I hear a ‘cracking’ sound, coming from the ‘Dashboard’, very strange indeed, am I imaging this? This behavior started a few days ago, but car eventually started. Tomorrow, I’m making a call to AAA, to have car towed to local Hyundai dealer, to diagnose, as I believe the issue is related to the Computer controls. A local repair shop will not provide or have the level of experience a Dealer will have, and parts (of needed), should be available. Has anyone on the Forum experience with Hyundai in particular, or had similar issue ? Your feedback, is greatly appreciated ! |

Not your brand of car and maybe not your issue but...
On some cars the brake pedal switch has additional functions beyond brake lights. Google around and you may discover there is a trend on that part of your car. |

A loose battery connection will make a crackling sound.
Put headlights on--for an easy check and easy fix.

Circling back with updates...
Car starts when it wants to, but not every time. Have checked Key FOBS', as I thought I may have a dead battery 'in the FOB', but my FOB and wifes' acting the same when starting the car. Went to Hyundai dealer to make an appointment, but the earliest they can get my car in is Oct 31. They said they only have 2 Techs that can run the diagnostics machine and they have soooo many appts for this service they're 'booked out' ! Mechanics said a 'bad' main battery will cause my type of conditions. They said a bad battery will light the Dashboard like the 4th of July! I ran a volt meter on my battery, and it indicated 12.1 volts, according to my research, that is about a 50% charged battery ! In the meantime, I'm going to call AAA to come to house to test battery, with their equipment. If they say it's basically on its way out I'll have them replace. Battery is OEM and 5 years old ! Will circle back, after more tests..... |

Have you tried removing the battery cables completely for a few seconds then reinstall and try??...If that doesn't work I would still try jumping it like ITD said...These things will cost you nothing to try and may reset whatever computer issue you are having...

If you are still within the five year bumper-to-bumper warranty...
Schedule the appointment for it to be looked over regardless. Better to catch what could be a problem in the future after the warranty is gone now. If Irwin can't get you in... Try Grappone. |

12.1 volts you measured is at a no load condition. The voltage probably drops well below the voltage for the computer to work properly when you try to start. That causes all sorts of havoc.

Have scheduled appt with Hyundai dealer, but they're over a week out for appts......Apparently, they only have a few techs that can run diagnostic machine, rest of techs' not trained !
Like I previously stated, the car starts when it want to...... When is does start it starts right up w/o a struggle, no delay. AAA has been dispatched, so when they arrive they can test the battery and alternator at the same time. Since battery is only holding 12.1 volts, there may be a slight possibility I have a bad cell, I've had this happen with other vehicles. Oh, forgot to mention, I'm out of State at S.C. home so not dealing with Irwin. |

Hi, I had intermittent starting problems on one of my cars. Pulled my hair out for 2 years. It would try to start but wouldnt . If I turned the key on and off (not going to the actual starter position) 5 or 6 times it would usually start after that. Sometimes it would start no problem at all. I was a mechanic years back so this was killing me.
Turns out that the negative battery cable where it attached to the body of the cars wasnt making good contact. I cleaned the wire end and where it attached to the body and have never had the problem again. This is something I never expected and figured that if a battery terminal connection was dirty - bad that it wouldnt start at all but this wasnt the case. This did this for 2 years until I cleaned the terminal. Just a thought !!! |

Thank God I wasn't on the side of the road in a crime ridden city , or even worse, my wife, with kids in back of the car. Going to have a serious talk with AAA tomorrow, and take my complaint up the ladder as far as I can push it ! I'd drop them but what is the alternative competition ? |

There should either be a sticker on the driver's side windows or one in your owner's manual.
That has the number to Hyundai Assurance. The problem would most likely be just the battery. But it is worth the wait even if it takes a month or more to have it checked out while still on the bumper-to-bumper five year warranty. |

Most of the time, service has been done out of Rochester NH to Alton. Two different time, the AAA guy pulled the flat tire off, found the puncture location, and determined it could be fixed with a plug. Repair was done and no problems with tire until it needed replacement along with the other tires. I'm glad I have AAA. Sorry if others experiences have not been as good. Dave

AAA finally arrived (5 hrs later from initial call) to diagnose the problem.
They used a hand mobile device (wasn't connected to battery, more like a Cell phone), and also a more elaborate testing device he connected directly to the battery. Tech reported in both cases the battery and Alternator tested fine, really no issues. Battery was on low side at 12.2 volts but he indicated that was not really unusual. He stated batteries usually register anywhere between 12.1-12.6 Volts. He asked if I regularly drive the vehicle, and we do not, and when we do it is for quick trips to the store and back, no ;ong trips. He said that may be the issue, not enough time for alternator to do it’s job. Also stated, that these new cars, with computers, can act crazy, if they don’t have enough voltage in battery. He said to let car run, even at idle, for about 45-60 minutes, which I did. Anyway, car starts w/o issues now, and will drive more often to see is resolved or if the issue re-occurs……. |

After AAA tech left, I took their advice, and started driving the car more often, like every day, even just going to grocery store/Wal-Mart only 5 miles away.
Knock on wood, but I haven't had any more issues, as reported previously. I'll just chock the issues, as related to these temperamental new computer driven cars ! The battery may have been only at 12.1/12.2 volts, but just enough low enough to flip out the car's computer, who knows ??? Thanks everyone for your feedback, much appreciated..... |

The Plus will tow 100 miles to your home or your shop of choice. Have had excellent service. Pot hole/flat tire in the middle of Tennessee at 05:30 AM in dark and raining in the middle of nowhere. Not near any cities. On my way in one hour. Good thing my GPS has coordinates - as I had no idea where I was. Different year. Different vehicle. Broke down on dirt back roads of Dorchester, NH. Me and the dog. Again, within an hour the dog and I and pickup were taken to Lakes Region to drop off truck at my local mechanic shop AND the driver took myself and the dog home. Yes, i did tip the driver. |

Hyundai for twenty years. Can't speak to the trade-in. I drive them for the full decade of warranty, a couple more years, and then give them away. Maybe the others should improve their warranties??? |

When you break down on 93 at 2am. You won't doubt at all the reason you have AAA. I've had it for years and only had to use them twice. Both times they showed up in a REASONABLE time frame, was very happy with the outcome. Just IMHO.
