Do what Broadhopper said. We took that route BACK from Florida. Wouldn't even think about going thru Ct, NY(city) or NJ. Probably added 2 hrs total to trip but way less stressful. We stayed at a Fairfield Inn (a Marriott property) in Salem, Va - checked in at 10pm and out by 7AM - saw no one but the clerk
