OMC Auxilllary gas tank needed?

On that note, I purchased new OMC gas line with Primer bulb. The gas line is 8' long. Can I connect the entire line as is out of the package, from tank to engine? Again, this need for the auxilliary tank, is to test the gas source, and whether the gas in the main tank (under the deck), is what's causing my engine problems. Just trying to eliminate one source at a time.....
When I isolate the gas issue, I will cut the new gas line to fit as current setup.

Can the length of gas line actually create an issue ? Also, I heard somewhere, where you should run the gas line horizontal from external separating filter to the engine, and not have the 'primer' bulb be positioned verticle, under any circumstances.
