Cate, you probably won't like this name, but I was trying to see what name I could make up from the letters in your's and Dianna's names and I came up with "AN AACIDENT"

Default We FOUND a NAME!

We just closed on the boat purchase tonight and we came up with a name that is meaningful to us...

Reliance

It is about trust (buying a boat together) and being able to rely on each other as sail mates. It is also about being able to rely on the boat! We think it is a strong assertive name, but not too harsh sounding.

Look for Reliance sailing around Wolfeboro and hopefully farther north.

There are some very creative and funny names on this thread that I hope others can use. Thanks everyone.

Congrats! Is that a Catalina 26?

Great choice for a name. Hope we see you sailing it all the time.

What elaborate ritual is there with changing a name? Just wondering.

All I remember is that it involves a lot of drinking.

Scraping off the stickers and putting the new decals on.

If it was an ocean going vessel and had its name registered with the Coast Guard, that requires filing paperwork and a pardon from the Governor. This is less than likely for a boat on Winni!

Whoa, that is almost as bad as choosing which jersey to wear to a Bruins playoff game!

Gotta love superstition! Enjoy

Wouldn't it be a lot easier if you just called the boat a name, but not write it on the boat plus you are saving a lot money and time. Works for me. LOL

I'm thinking that because the boat is on the lake we may not need to invoke all those sea gods in the ceremony. In fact I'm thinking we may revise the naming ceremony quite a bit and just have a couple beers and have a toast to Mineola and any other lake spirits that may be lingering about...especially the spirit of "Squirrley Winds" ...you know...that sudden shift of wind direction that sends the boom flying across the cockpit and knocking unaware sailors unconscious?

The heck with the Lake Sprits just enjoy the liquid ones during the short and sweet ceremony. Oh, Mineola is a town that a good friend of mine lives in Texas.
