I know this may be pushing the intent of this Forum but ...
my son would like to attend college in the area - (we are going to Lyndon Vt. next week to check out what it has to offer, but it is not right near by) -he is interested in TV Broadcast. I know Plymouth is near by but does not offer his major, Any ideas that he should check out - he wants to be 1 to 1.5 hours from the lake! Thanks! |

A state school must offer a wide variety of classes. Many institutions allow a student to create their own major from the various curricula avaiable at the school, though I do not know if Plymouth State does this.
A mixture of journalism, english, history, music (for a student interested in being the on-air talent) or math, science (physics?), engineering (for a student interested in being in the technical end), plus a stint at the student (radio station if there is one) would seem to be the ideal educational experience for someone eho is aspiring to be in TV broadcast.. I'd call the school and see if a broad multi-discipline educational experience would be possible. |

the New England School of Communications in Bangor, Maine?
click here for NESC or the University of Southern Maine in Portland click here Broadcast Journalism is also offered in New Hampshire at Franklin Pierce College (too far away), Hesser College in Manchester click here and at Rivier Collge in Nashua (probably also too far away). .....and the cottage will be a great place to throw a wild college keg party when the parents are back in New York! GOOD LUCK!!!! (Info from The College Board Book of Majors) Last edited by mcdude; 11-02-2004 at 12:20 PM. |

Lyndon state is about 2 hours from the lake.I've had a few friends go to school there and loved it.You also have the bonus of Burke Mt ski area right there if you like to slide on the frozen stuff. SS

I'm not sure if your travel concern is for a day student daily commute or for weekends and holidays. In either case. If your student is willing to travel 90 minute from the lake, the extra time (less than 30 more minutes) to get to Emerson would be well worth the investment. I looked long and hard at schools before deciding on Emerson. Of course the options have changed a bit since then. While college shopping ask about their graduates and where they are working now (I see the names of Emerson graduates - some were my classmates - on many TV shows). Anyway, I hope you are able to consider Emerson as an option. Good luck.

Thank you all for the great responces! In one da i have a handful of schools to check out. I was thinking of the wild "Keggers" he could throw at a cottage, but I think he would like to come to the lake if he needed some place like "HOME" but Long Island was too far a drive for the weekend! Emerson is on his list and some one else told me about Southern Maine - I'll have him look into it!
I'll keep you informed as to the status! Wish him luck! |
