Default Winter is Coming!!!!!!

Good news for those that like to ski, sled, etc.

The NWS sees winter coming our way! Brrrrrrrrr!

Temperatures over the next week-10 days may end up avg'g a bit below normal. It is likely the +4f average of the first 12 days is going to be diminished though we are cautious about how cold it can become after day7 since the GFS has had a substantial cold bias in these parts for a couple of months in its longer range outlooks. What we have high confidence in...the trough is coming to the East Coast and that increases our chances for colder weather and snow events. That trend starts in earnest late today.

I really dont know what that all means, but, I can see the temps......what you posted even SOUNDS cold, Brrrrrr! Are you a weather man or something, cause that sounds too technical for me.......I try to watch the weather for the lake area everyday, but down here you dont get the details.....do me a favor, try to stay warm........

Default Winter

Nope not a weatherman. Just posted something from the National Weather Service.

I am not real fond of the bitter cold but do like to play in the snow. Figure if it has to be cold then at least let it snow too. Hate to think we could have another winter like last year with the bitter cold and not much snow.

Default according to the Weirscam

it seems winter has already arrived. 16 degrees this morning. It's only 50 here this morning. That's cold enough for me.

Default Storm coming??

Keep your eyes on the forecast for Monday. Looks like a decent nor'easter could form of the eastern coast, and head up just outside of Cape Cod. If everything comes together just right, we could be doing some shoveling. With a bulldozer. Seriously though, this could be a big one. Then again, it could be flurries. Like the tv weather guys say, just 50 or 100 miles east and we get nothing. 50 or 100 miles west and we get rain. Right up the middle and we get buried. I for one am hoping to get buried.

Default Plan the snow

I’m heading home to Wolfeboro on the 21st. Last year the big storm was before I arrived and the plows had finished their job. It made for a nice white Christmas without the driving hassle. Can anyone fix it so it happens again this year before the 21st?
I need a snow fix so I can enjoy my boating the rest of the winter in the southland.

Talking The great white hope

Skiing been marginal with all the warm weather and rain. I am hoping to get some skiing done before Christmas when everyone hit the slopes. I hear that the cold weather got the snow guns in full force at the ski areas. Should be some good skiing this weekend.

Default Alton Bay Ice

This afternoon I drove through Alton Bay and noticed that there is now ice from the Rt. 11 bridge out to the public boat ramp at Shibley's restaurant. (Skim ice, but ice just the same!) It was very cold here today, only getting up to about 20 degrees. Supposed to get into the single numbers tonight, then just a bit less cold tomorrow.

For those of you who love the white stuff Gunstock says it will be running the snow making equipment for the next 48 hours. Also it is 12F there right now.

Default No Storm.....

Here is the NWS info on the storm:

The models go their separate ways on the development of the
long wave trough along the eastern Seaboard...how much energy works
off the middle Atlantic coast during Sunday night and Monday. Most do
agree of rapid cyclogenesis off the North Carolina or Virginia
coast Sunday night and Monday. Right now...it appears that this
low...which the GFS deepens to a 972 hpa center well east of Cape
Cod Monday night...remains outside the benchmark. Feel that the
current forecast of chance conditions covers the situation well
considering the low confidence on the model solutions at this
time. Have kept likely probability of precipitation for a short period on the East Coast and
Cape Cod Monday afternoon into early Monday night with closest
approach of this low. Do expect strong northeast winds especially
on Cape Cod and the islands late Monday and Monday night as the low
deepens.

The low is expected to push into the Maritimes by Tuesday morning
with backedge chance of snow showers clearing the coast by the
afternoon. Weak high pressure will follow late Tuesday into
Wednesday. Upper level winds shift to west and southwest ahead of a
weak low over the Great Lakes which remains over that region into
Wednesday night...with a warm front pushing north of the area.
Another weak low forms off the middle Atlantic coast by next
Thursday.

Talking The weekend.

SS. I will be Sunday River bound Friday, and possibly Killington Sunday. I have a bunch of vouchers to Sunday River/Killington that I have to use by the 20th. I usually avoid Saturdays as it is the most crowded day. Pray that the ULLR is with us!!!!!!

Unhappy Wrong again!

Well, I guess it was just wishful thinking on my part regarding the snow non-event yesterday. Damn weather guys got my hopes up yet again, only to squash them with only 4 inches of fluff at home. Oh well, winter has only just begun (about an hour ago). 3 weeks ago, I predicted to some friends that we would have a decent snowstorm on our around Christmas. Alas, one of the weather models is showing a storm coming up the coast Christmas Day. Of course the more reliable models show this same storm heading out to sea well south of Cape Cod. I still stand by my prediction, with strong hopes that I, and the unreliable weather model, am right!
