Bob (MooneyBob, Bravo Bob, LuvFlying, etc. - he's got a lot of names) flew his new to him Mooney in when we met up there last Sunday. He's written it up in his flying blog, if anyone wants to check it out.

I've been working over on the north side of Squam we've had a single engine drop in the past couple days. I guess they don't have wheel brakes
because it is glare ice.

I don't recall seeing this before but I've been around awhile so I may have forgotten.

Paul, has the tower gotten any idea on pilots coming in tomorrow> My daughter and niece are not going to sleep tonight in anticipation of seeing planes and pilots tomorrow.

Default On the ice!

It was quite the day at the Alton Bay Ice Airport. Planes were coming and going all day. This is just one example of what makes the Lakes Region so special.

Had a great time at the Alton airport yesterday with my daughter and niece. The pilots were very friendly and more than happy to chat with everyone. The girls got a huge kick out of watching the takeoffs and landings on the ice. Can't say enough about the job Paul and his crew do on keeping it open.

Default Amazing....

I count no less than 14 planes on the runway at 1:45 this afternoon. It must be awesome to be there and see it first hand.

There were several planes on the ice this morning by 8:30 a.m., as I was driving to work. Smoke was rising out of several of the ice fishing huts and the Bay looked like a little village. It just made going to work this morning that much harder! I wanted to stay and watch the planes!

We counted 16 planes in the parking area about 2:30 today with others landing and taking off. Also two planes on skis landed near us but away from the runway.

I was heading to work in the opposite direction at around 12:30, and really had to fight the urge to park the car! Then, for the second time this week I was treated to the delight of watching an airplane on approach go directly over my head as I made the turn to cross the bridge. I was actually tempted to just stop in the road and watch it land. There is something simply magical about the Alton Ice Airport.

Today is a day off, and if I can finish enough chores in time, you can bet my car will on it's way to Alton!

I see the return taxiway got plowed out last night. That had to be hard on the equipment. Just a fantastic job your doing Iceguy.

... so I didn't finish chores in time to get to Alton today, but I was able to console myself with a visit to YouTube, where I found this ...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1LWE4-CDXk&NR=1 and several others. Really, really cool!

Default Bustling Bay

We stopped by Alton Bay on the way back to MA on Saturday. It is an amazing sight to see all kinds of activity there.
