There are a couple of cottages on the north side of Keniston Island that date back to the 1880s. They were built by railroaders who rowed back and forth to Wolfeboro (2 mi.) for access. They would drag lumber behind their row boats to build the cottages and left their wives and kids on the island while they went to work all week - rowing back Firday night. WOW!

And a true Republican, Don't Start!
There is a great article on how I feel in May 2010 'New Hampshire Magazine' titled 'Old Man or Big Wind?'. Its about folks that moves into NH and trying to bring their values with them. True NH folks are akin to madmen and NH is America's answer to Australia. NH folks may be crazy, we live up to our motto 'Live Free or Die'. Better to leave your values, south of the border and leave us alone!

Our house first showed up on the tax rolls in 1908. Back in the 70's ( I think)
it was featured in a national coffee commercial. I regularly scour youtube to see if it shows up...so far no luck. ![]() |

Oh, I LOVE your house. I remember the commercial so well! Wasn't it owned by Dr. Scholls at one time?

Thanks tis, we love it too! I know very little of its history. We hear fragments here and there. I've never had the time to really research it. I'm too busy enjoying it!

So BH throws out the term Flatlander and people get ruffled feathers. So I am going to start a separate thread to allow people to define what the believe a flatlander is. Or isn't.... Just because your for south of the Notch, by some beliefs, or South of Concord by others... doesn't mean your a flatlander. However having spent a great deal of time in Northern Vt. and Northern NH.... I can tell you there are some defining traits.

Maybe flatlander is the wrong term. Ir was adopted from my grandfather who was originally from Vermont and my Dad.
Maybe we should call those folks that come up here with their ideology 'Southern Democrats'.
