Back in the day ..... after graduation from college, I drove my 1970 441-V from Providence to PEI, Canada and then across the county to the west coast. Our plan was to drive it home, but my friends 1966 Truimph Bonneville toasted a piston and I elected to take that opportunity to ship the bike home via truck and fly TWA from California to Boston .. vibration free.
I do remember becoming an expert in points replacement and just that right touch of kick start pressure and compression release ... else it would snap back and put you airborne. Matter of fact it kicked back so hard one day, that the kick starter (sans pedal rubber) tore through my steel shanked / web sided army green jungle boots from Vietman, almost breaking my ankle. It sounds just as good today, as it did 40 years ago.. that one lunger has such a distintive tone and low end power. |

1995 HD FXDS Dyna Conv with wide glide forward controls. Also touring seat, passenger floorboards and padded sissy bar to keep the wife comfortable. Bike still runs and looks great after 30K miles.

Dug this out of the ancient history files.
It is on the Cabot Trail about a week into my cross country trip.. I have many a fond memory of doing the drive around the lake every summer... before job / marriage / children / overseas assignments........... adulthood ... put an end to it. The other bike is a 1966 Triumph Bonneville Last edited by Winni-Retired; 06-11-2010 at 08:27 PM. |
