20 foot "sled" off the Weirs

These side-scan images pretty much demanded a dive. Not much is parallel in nature and this was no exception.

I landed on it at about 49 feet. What I found was a heavy wooden "sled", rectangular in shape sitting in shallow mud. It appeared to be identical on both ends, meaning if it is a sled it can be dragged in either direction without having to turn it around first. I reached around in the mud in the center of it looking for ribs etc. but found none.

The sides were heavy vertical planks, built up 2 planks thick. The ends were shaped from the timbers to be skids, skiis basically, tapered (cut) upwards.

The ends were connected horizontally by framing that went straight across to the other side but, and had a unique, deep notch cut in the center of this cross member on each end of the rig.

As I visualized what it could be for the only thing I could think of was to transport big logs across the ice. Put a log on this thing, land it in the slot on each end and it's not going anywhere. I figure you could have put perhaps up to a forty footer on this rig and hauled it around.

Again if anyone has any idea what this setup might have been for I'd like to know.
