After all the $$ they just dumped into that humongous new "west wing"? That's rather surprising.

I have been told by a supervisor at Huggins that there is a new ER director. Someone to help calm the craziness that's been happening. Unfortunately, I was told this by having a very unpleasant experience with my daughter at their ER.

IMHO, I don't think it would be a bad thing if someone (or plural) else owned it!!!

There was a corporate reorganization but it was pretty much public knowledge and nothing different than any other hospital in the area is experiencing due to the current economy.

I believe they made all of their rooms into single patient beds, as they are also now a critical access hospital. Due to privacy laws (HIPPA) and what the insurance companies will pay for, single bed rooms make sense - even just from an infection control standpoint.

Hospitals are top-heavy in administrators - it only makes sense that they recognize potential cost-savings by reorganizing from the top of a department down. This is a common business practice - you just don't think of it being a reality in healthcare.

Hospitals may be top-heavy in administration, the COO's annual stipends rival COO's of Fortune 500 COO's! They claim they are in line with their piers. I think they are all out of line. Companies COO's are judged on their profit performance and paid accordingly. I just can't see how non-profits COOs justify their salaries when they are losing money!
