My buddy just got back from taking a spin on the Sea Doo over near Governor’s Island and claims to have seen an unusual animal swimming in the water. He came running back to the house telling us he saw a Bear-Shark diving for fish underneath the GI bridge. He was able to take a few photos on his camera phone before the animal dove for a final time.
I didn’t believe him at first but after doing some research I've come across quite a few articles discussing the rare species. According to researchers, the bear-shark was thought to have been extinct - it's last sighting occurred in April of 1918 in a small man made pond in Northern VT. Bear-sharks are primarily herbivores and feed on underwater vegetation but occasionally have been seen feeding on small to medium size fish. It's thought that a genetic mutation that occurs at birth gives this amphibious animal the appearance of a sharks body with a fury brown head resembling a bear. Once he uploads the photo, we'll share it on this thread. Has anyone seen this creature on the lake before? |

No LakesRider, that's not what GunzandRoses saw - you posted a Shark-Bear (Bear body with a Shark's head), and he clearly said it had a sharks body and a bear's head. You must have taken your picture on your last trip to New Zealand - we don't have Shark-Bears in the Northern Hemisphere.

Be lucky we don't see more of these. I hear they're responsible for a lot of NWZs in FL ! (and apparently are highly unstable)

Real mature everyone. Laugh about a devestating threat to the Lakes Region. Bearsharks are a major threat to National Security. We are uncertain just how many are already in the country or how many are just waiting to swim in, given a moment's opportunity.
There has not yet been a major attack of Bearsharks on American soil, but one would be nearly impossible to predict. The only preparation that can be made is around the clock military response, but even this will prove futile, as an entire navel ship could easily fall victim to a surprise attack. Bearsharks certainly pose a considerable threat to National Security, but far more fearsome is their threat to the free trade market that America is built on. Bearsharks are Communists. |

Hay Gang,
These are all great photos, BUT we ALL know the only cross breed seen (sometimes) in the lake, (rarely photographed) comes out mostly at night, swims around freely and cautiously, looking for preditors, is the famous Winnipesaukee "BearAss!" One time there was a "rhumor" of a beach loaded with them, but that proved to be a "trick!" Most "BeerAsses," come around after large quanties of "Northern Coldbeer!"...This thread is Good for the heart and soul and a good smile!...LOL "The Eagle" |

I really hope that that Piro Bearshark stays away, that species could really cause some trouble.
Bearshark Prime sounds completely made up, I mean really, how could this species really grow to 400 feet. ![]() |

No one believed me when I said I was bit by a shark on the 14th in Moultonborough. Now I can tell them I have proof. It was a bear shark!
