My parents live in CT and I grew up there.
Actually when we were researching places to move to out of New Jersey we looked at CT very seriously, BUT we love our lakes, mountains and shore and get all that and more in NH.

I've heard a lot of complaining about transplants on the NH city-data forum. Especially in regard to wanting services that raise taxes. I'm not sure why a lot of the lakes region has kept taxes low, but that is one of the top ten reasons why we are moving there. When we get there I will fight to keep those property taxes low.

All pretty low tax towns if you ask me.
Hey, I live on the Jersey shore now, so a LOT of NH property taxes seem low to me. I'm sure those CT folks may be thinking the same.

CateP,

Just out of curiosity, what is your number one reason for moving to NH and your number one reason for leaving NJ?

Number one reason for moving to the lakes region (versus any part of New Hampshire) is quality of life. Happiness of being near lakes, mountains and other beautiful outdoors.

Number on reason for leaving New Jersey is stress!!!!

It's the combination of the high valuation and abundance of lake front property that keep tax rates low in these towns. If you live off the lake (like me) it's great. If you live on the lake...OUCH!
