Default Sandwich Fire

Those of you who frequent the Village Kitchen, I'm sure, have noticed Erwin Young faithfully cooking your breakfast each day......he has worked for us for 25 years.
On sunday Erwin lost his house in Sandwich to a fire. It was a total loss and there is no insurance. The family got out with only the clothes on their backs.
They are staying with relatives temporarily but it's going to be a long road back for them and any help would be appreciated. We will have a donation box by the register all of this week if you are able to help.
Even though they lost everything, they are grateful that they are all ok and were able to save their pets, as well.

Wow...tragic!
Seen him working the breakfast grill many times.
No insurance? Ouch!
Gonna try to get over there Thursday morning to contribute something...
I would bet if you try this agian in early summer, with seasonals back in the fold, the results would be very good.
I wish him well...

Very sorry to hear about this loss and it must be very challenging for all involved.

Not having any home insurance probably creates some big big problems. For example, if the town requires that the burnt out wreck be torn down to the ground and removed, there's no friendly insurance company to pay the bills.

Two other structure fires; the All Over Saloon in the Weirs, across from the volcano waterslide, and a house under construction in Gilford next to Belknap Point Motel are still standing despite mega fire damage to them both.

If a house has a mortgage then it's a safe bet that it has a current insurance policy because it is a very important requirement by the mortgage lender.

It could be that after paying for the property taxes and heating fuel, there wasn't enough left to pay for home insurance. It seems like the price of home insurance has really been going up in price over the last five years which obviously just makes it a lot tougher to have home insurance.

Again, very sorry to hear!

Any idea what size clothes donations or furniture/appliances are good to be donating?

Thank God that there were no lives lost. Can you post the VK's address so that those of who can't stop by can donate checks or other things by mail? If there is another address, please let us know.

Really nice of you to make a special trip to help out.....they have lots of family and friends in the area, so I'm sure they'll land on their feet with a little help.

My husband and I had to clean out two of our parents houses this past year. I have dishes, end tables, shelving units and some furniture I could donate.
