Does anyone have any recommendations on a good, reliable residential paving contractor in the Tuftonboro/Wolfeboro area?

Can't suggest anyone in particular but I can tell you this:
- Have them "saw-cut" the asphalt at the street for a super clean joint where the street meets the driveway; Not only does it look like crap without a saw cut it tends to break up more easily when the joint isn't clean; Very very easy to do; Then when they are done paving have them seal the seam with the hot tar; - Compaction and more compaction is the rule for surface prep of the top soil-substrate-roll the daylights out of it if there is doubt; If they need to fill any areas use re-processed concrete aggregate (sometimes called RAP)-gray in color with small stones in it-smells like....concrete; the stuff is amazing vs. simple fill and is cheap too; I got mine from Bradsher; I think they have a plant in the Rochester area also; www.bradshercorp.com - If they are tearing up old asphalt make sure the price includes taking it away; - Drainage is always an issue to some extent; Make sure they use a laser transit instead of eye-balling it and telling you not to worry-nonsense; My driveway was so well paved at first I thought I needed box trenches in front of the garage to stop runoff from entering the garage but the paver used a laser transit and tweaked it perfectly; Even in heaving downpours water coming down the drive banks left off the driveway about 10 feet from the door; - Tamp the edges of the asphalt smooth to about a 45 degree angle; Looks better than ragged asphalt where it got squeezed out from the roller; - Asphalt thickness: varies from perhaps 2" min. to as much as 3.5"; 2.5-3.0" should be fine but ask around; - Like painting, good paving is at least 1/2 preparation; Hold your ground if a contractor complains or tells you such and such is not necessary; I wrote out the specs for the guys I called for quotes; Quotes for the exact same spec ranged from $3,200 to $6,400; - Get their Liability Policy Schedule Page then call the Insurer to make sure it's actually in-force; Get Work. Comp Schedule Page too if they have it; Just my experience talking, with some help from my brother in CT who is in construction. Hope it helped. |

Benji Doliber is in the Wolf, Tuft area. Matt Tinker at Tinker's flooring would know how to get in touch with him. He rents from Benji. I can't think of the name of his company. I don't know if there is another local one or not.

i can say this on Marvin rd in Moultonborough several years ago we hired Porter Paving terrrible job!!! they went over my driveway and it was very uneven the rep. came out and actually yelled at me and Said "that's a birdbath and that is not covered in your contract". it took them severel weeks to come back and redue the area with the "birdbath" and it still looks like hell. i have herd good things about GMI give them a try.

Last spring we contracted GMI to pave our previously un-paved driveway. I can, with great conviction, recommend them wholeheartedly. From first visit, through site work, to finished project, everyone on their crew was professional, efficient, and friendly. They came in slightly under their original proposal, which absolutely blew my mind. In the event I ever need a paving project completed again, I wouldn't dream of calling anyone but GMI!

Perm-A-Drive 447-2013
Eugene Shannon Cel 986-1415 Albany NH They installed my 300' driveway in Wolfeboro 3 years ago. It's still perfect including swall, culvert and top finish. At the time the price was the best around.

Breton Paving out of Gilford is well known in the Lakes Region. They have done three driveways on my road and do a lot of work in South Down Shores. Good quality work.
