Default When Mitt gets elected....no more skinny dipping!

Well, skinny dipping after dark would be out. Who knows how many SS divers' eyes would be peering up from the depths around the bay!

Much activity surrounding the premises would be monitored, I would think. More so a few weeks before he comes to town and during the visit. Plain clothes surveillance, video cameras strategically placed, etc. I'll lend the SS the motion-activated camera I gave hubby a few years ago -- it's still in the box!

I would imagine the poor people of Wolfeboro will see gridlock when he's on the move, but that would be about it. Dignitaries would not likely come to NH, but the White House or Camp David. Logistically a nightmare for all. They'll likely not draw any more attention to a visit as necessary, unless it involves good PR for the WH.

My in-laws live a short way outside of Kennebunkport. My recollection is that Bush's presence there was of minimal impact.

As others have mentioned, he rarely entertained dignitaries there.

If anything, some of the businesses complained that people stayed away because they assumed it was going to be crowded/crazy.

On occasion, there would be the random road closure, but not enough to worry about.

My biggest worry would be the after affect of all the publicity that our beloved small town would get.

merrymeeting, the biggest factor that determines the impact to you is if you are on the actual route. To Walker's point there are lots of other paths you can choose to get around if you know the area.

In the case of the Lake, if you happen to be driving around the lake on a busy weekend day and a Presidential Motorcade is on the move, you may change your opinion It's certainly not the end of the world but you can be held up in traffic for a while if you hit the right place at the wrong time.

WE had friends who lived very close to the Bush's house and when they were there and we went to visit, you could only go one direction. The road by their house was closed.

How much inconvienence would there be?
Vehicle searches(car and boats) and monitoring cellphone conversations? Checking adult diapers before boarding the mount? I have a feeling we will need to change the state motto.

From today's GSN:

MITT ROMNEY (shown here in the 2008 parade with wife Ann) was one of the first politicians to sign up for the 2011 July 4th Parade. Also participating will be First District Congressman Frank Guinta and the Wolfeboro Area Democrats.

Mitt is going to be in the parade in Wolfeboro Monday. Ron Paul is going to be in Wolfeboro tomorrow, at Evergrain around 2. Lots of politics this Fourth, I would say.

Janet Napolitano is the third and current United States Secretary of Homeland Security.

Under her brilliant stewardship we now get photographed naked to get on a plane and our grand mother has her diaper searched. The references to the enhanced security to get on the Mount if Mitt was to become the prez gave me the very pleasant thought that perhaps we might get someone in the position that could stop terror without creating more of it in the process.

Default The woman in the photo

I live in the state she governed for years and our economy is now one of the worst in the United States and our borders are awful. I'm not necessarily a fan of our current governor but I feel for her and the mess she is trying to clean up. I cannot believe this woman is in charge of Homeland Security when you look at the security of the state she previously governed....

Guys, please limit your comments to the impact this could have on the lake and surrounding communities. There are many other forums where you can express your political opinions.

Default Brewster Fields

Mitt will pay Brewster Academy $$$$$$$ to land Marine one on their fields
and no impact to traffic will happen except for the beach goers at Brewster Beach.
However roping off part of Winni will happen.
Just my solution.

I know there is an Air force 1, and Marine 1, Motorcade 1, (army) but is there a Navy 1? What kind of boat does the president get? If I was president that would be my first question, where is my new boat!

I know how he feels. Coming back home to New Hampshire can be a great sense of comfort and decompression. I think that if we get Mitt as a president, this kind of tips his hand that New Hampshire might be a likely place to recharge the batteries and get some quality think time.

In deed you are correct RGuy..... I while I see it as a great thing for a president of have a place to get away too, I am not sure I want to see it in the lakes region. It might lead to restrictions that none of use are fond of....
It also tends to lead to a real estate boom, which may drive some of us off the lake.....

Not that this would keep me from voting for Romney If I feel he is the right the person for the job.....

That is one of the many Reasons I still believe Romney to be a long shot. He starts his campaign earlier then any one else, because he has the money to do so. And while there is no real opposition, his message is always quite clear. He is a business man, he see the opportunity to take a business approach to government. (no different the Ross Perot, and Donald Trump). However as additional candidates start to come into the light, and the political game starts, Romney losses traction, as he has to take hard fast stances on issues, that in the beginning he skirts around. There is a reason this man seems to only play in politics.

I will consider Romney, but first he has to make it through the primary season.

Just a friendly reminder... these forums are for the lake. While it's appropriate to discuss Romney in light of his residence here, lets be careful this thread doesn't branch into a political/candidate discussion.

If Mitt wins the only thing that I can imagine is, that the marine patrol will double, with state police on board, coast guard cutters allover the place, navy seals tooling around, secret service marine division stopping every vessel within a ¼ of a mile of mitts place. Just going to Wolfeboro for a ice cream cone would be a nightmare wondering if your going to get torpedoed out of the water!
In my opinion Mr. Romney is the best person to for the job at hand, but should I vote for a another candidate for my own selfish reasons to save the way of life I have been accustom to on the lake?

I have plenty of reasons NOT to vote for Mitt, and the Lake has absolutely nothing to do with them. 2A Lies to start with. Only one candidate has NH values of Liberty, Freedom and Frugality, and the record to show he means what he says.

Please don't get into a political debate here. This thread is to discuss the imaginable and the unimaginable (read that as funny and or serious) consequences of having a presidential retreat here on the lake.

One real change will be regarding airspace control, especially if he were around, possible even family members. A no fly zone is usually in place around the residence of a president, wherever that may be at the time. It could possibly affect access to Laconia airport when he was here. I remember when George Walker visited many years back, the airspace was shut down, and that was just for a visit.

This is the same guy who several years ago had off duty Mass state troopers patrolling the waters off of his property illegally keeping boaters away. The waters of NH are a public right of way; we do not need over bearing arrogant politicians keeping order with their own private out of state police force.
If he was to get elected and visits the lake I think you will find a lot of unhappy inconvenienced boaters and drivers on that side of the lake.

This is important to know, if it happened.

I agree. Mitt is building a huge house in California. Once the NH primary is over it may be out of sight out of mind for Mitt, especially if he wins the presidency. My guess is that he won't be here very much.

Can you provide us with evidence of this happening?
His actions made the news in both states and had many in this area shaking our heads at his actions. It was several years ago and was a topic on the forum.

Well one thing I will be willing to bet if he becomes president: He will not go to the dump-er transfer station- in his old clothes anymore.

Nor will he be able to just pop in to the local hardware store or lumberyard.

Reply by Islander:
As I remember it, the Massachusetts State Police detail guarding the Govenor put out those lines without a permit. That is why a boat could legally enter the area.

Below is a copy of the swim line rules. Boats are not allowed in swim areas. They also require that only the shore front property owner can obtain a permit. This shows the property owner has rights to the lake that others do not have.

(b) No person shall put or place a swim line in the public waters of any public body of water without prior written approval of the director.

(c) An application for a swim line permit, DSSS 41, shall be submitted to the director by the shore front property owner, or a duly authorized agent.

The above is a discussion between PROPELLER and Islander in the Diver Flag thread of the boating section. It ocurred in 2005. It is the only reference I could find in the forum in a search of Romney and Police.

Default One good thing

We won't have to be aggravated by not being able to dock in Wolfeboro while looking at the handicap dock empty. We won't be able to get by the armada blocking Wolfeboro bay.

From a private pilot's perspective, with Mitt as Prez, it won't be a good thing around the lake. Since 9/11, the Secret Service applies large area flight restrictions around the President where ever he goes.

So, I hope he's nowhere close by during the Winter Festival at Alton Bay, because there will be no Ice Runway flyin. And access in and out of Laconia Airport will likely be restricted.
