I dont believe there has been a permit needed for rafts in a long while, if ever. There was discussions for a short period of time about having to register them with the state but that was short lived.

Indeed, the was a year where they tried to implement this.... I happened to be at the MP office, getting my registration stickers that year and talked briefly with them about it... the bottom line, was what had looked like a reasonable idea, turned into a nightmare, as they were flooded with applications for permits.

Reasonable idea, I think not... Ridiculous yes! All they had to do was simply require everyone to write their name and address on the rafts, (just like they do with bob houses) and when one breaks free and is found with no name, a simple fine could be levied. That's too simple however...

I guess it's a moot point since it never came to be anyway!

Back to our regularly scheduled program...

But you bring up a good point.

When we find a raft blowing by and rescue it, we really appreciate the folks who took the time to write their name, address and phone number on it.

Edit: Of course, if it's a big yellow one, we cut the panel with the information out with a knife to make the call.
