Default Sei

I used an SEI drive when I replaced mine a few years back. The first year it was a bit noisy as the gears broke in, after that it has been perfect

I just noticed that they now make Bravo replacements and Cobra Conversion kits. They really have filled a niche. http://www.sterndrive.cc/

Default Mercruiser Repair

Thanks guys, you are all very helpful. I'm still in Canada (a little south of Georgian Bay however). The unfortunate part is my son knows the area very well and just drifted over the rocks while getting ready to ski....he felt terrible about it.

Do you think the local marinas would install the SEI 116 replacement or would they insist on Mercruiser replacement?

I had Independent marine install mine (it was there for diagnosis- took fishing line around prop seal, causing failure and fluid loss- bye bye gears!). I bought it and they installed it. I am sure most marinas are familiar with them and will install them.

My insurance would not cover it, but would have covered your loss.

I had Shep Browns do mine and it was quick and as painless as it could be. I give them a call.
