Diesel boats on Lake Winni?

Propeller: Yes, I know some folks with a large Carver who have to call a truck to meet them at the docks for a refuel. I mentioned that it sounds like a real pain. They replied that they usually only burn through 2 tanks per season.

If you fill your boat with heating oil, don't you avoid the road tax and the hassle of requesting a refund from the state? Maybe a diesel boat is a good idea.

Will, the Carver I was referring to was called Dunwishn, it was sold last year & is no longer at MVYC

JRC - yes, you would avoid the road tax if you used heating oil. However, they probably use "off road diesel" which is the same as pump diesel without the road tax. (Its usually dyed red so it would be obvious during a truck stop inspection that you were using incorrect fuel.)

The Mount runs a diesel, so perhaps at night you could paddle up beside her an siphon off a few gallons.

Be very, very careful.

Anyway I under stand that fuel oil will work but there may be additives in diesel fuel which are not found in heating oil that help clean the injectors. etc...

That is infact correct however, home heating oil will make a mess in injectors. It clogs them like no other. Also home heating oil by nature is a dirty substance. It lacks the necessary biobor that most diesel fuel already has in it. For the extra money its not worth running home heating oil, in the small recreational diesels they just cant handle prolonged use of it. Stick to the regular fuel and save yourself the trouble of 600$ an injector.
