Early for Snow Forecasts but Still Interesting

I just saw this link posted on Sunday River's facebook site. Forcasting HEAVY SNOW for pretty much the whole state of New Hampshire for the coming winter. Won't be long.http://www.accuweather.com/blogs/met...f-20112012.asp

There isn’t a forecaster that can get storm predictions correct more than 24 hours before a rain or snow event. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve put my plow on for predicted heavy snowfall that turned out to be an inch or less.
Or set up to paint a house only to have it raining by 10am when showers were forecast for late afternoon or evening.
NECN was the most accurate one for this area, now with direct TV I don’t get them.
I’ll believe it when the snow is on the ground and my pockets have money in them.

Would you expect a business, that needs and wants lots of snow to attract skiers to come and spend their money, to forcast or predict a winter with Little or No snow?

Sitting at home with a sweat shirt on has me thinking of winter hoping for an early start to the riding season this year.
I’ve more than had enough of this summer heat and humidity.

I seem to remember last year the National Weather Service predicted a severe hurricane season with at least 5 storms in the catagory 4-5 range.......nothing happened...a total bunch of bull.
Weather can be predicted accurately for 3 days to a week.........anything else is a guess.

I run a painting business and a snowplowing business. Both rely heavily on the weather forecasting. I honestly have found that even within a 24hour period they are at best 40% right when it comes to timing and amounts. Temps seem to be the only thing they get correct on a regular basis. Just this year I’ve wasted time getting set up on a job only to have it rain 6 hours before it was predicted to.

One of the most valuable things I’ve learned in life and passed on to my boys. If you are not sure about something don’t try and make it seem like you are. People have a lot more respect for you of you admit you don’t know the answer, but will get back to them with the right answer when you find it.

The guy that did the Accuweather long term forecast for the last two winters was pretty much spot on. He usually puts those out in October, and any changes are done in early November.

I find daily forecasts to inaccurate, but long term overview forecasts like the one mentioned here and in the Farmer's Almanac tend to be correct.

In the interim, I want more summer, and warm eweather until Halloween!
