Looking for Nice Afternoon Walks with Dogs

Hi-I am in Wolfeboro and looking for places where I can take a nice afternoon walk with my dogs. (about an hour or so) They love water so a lake, pond or stream along the way would be nice. Waterfalls even better

I have been on the Cotton Valley trail in Wolfeboro, which was beautiful.

Knights Pond is a real nice walk. You can access the area from Rines Rd. off Rte 28 in Alton, just over the Wolfeboro line. It is a nice area with a trail that goes around the pond, will take you 30-45 minutes.

I was looking at house over on Hayes Rd. this summer so I know Rines Rd. Can you describe the trail head?

Take Rines Road from Rt. 28. There will be a dirt road on the left and up a slight grade. Take the left and follow that dirt road to a parking area; a kiosk with trail maps is there. A gate blocks access to the road to the pond, but walking in is allowed. Not sure about rules re dogs...

Don't go so far down Rines Road that you come to a large cleared area on the left; if you see that, you went too far.

Cate...it's a very nice walk but I was bombarded by bugs the entire time. I went right before dusk but definitely noticed the bugs were much worse than any other hike/walk I took any where in the area.

Not sure if Castle in The Clouds is close enough for what you have in mind. But if you take the road up to the water bottling plant (don't have to pay) you can access some nice walks just around the trout pond for something easy. Dogs allowed as long as leashed. And the Brook Trail, just before the rest room buildings is nice and easy, with lots of little water falls.
My dogs love, love, love it !

The Bald Knob trail from the bottling plant is our favorite trail with our dog. Good grade, no drop offs, and an amazing open view of the entire lake. Also the Rattlesnake Trail at Squam Lake.

Tumbledown Dick is good exercise, a short hike would be Abanaki Tower, or the trails at the skating rink

These are all really great ideas and resources. My lab is 12 years old and has weak back legs so she can't do REAL hiking and my little Shih Tzu is too short to get over rocks and stuff. We need a kind of flat trail...BUT I would happily take some of these hikes without the dogs.

I've been to Abenaki Tower and Rattlesnake at Squam. Best views for the least amount of work

Walking around the perimeter of the Nick ball fields is a nice take. I see lots of folks walking their dogs around the fields. It is nice and flat with lots of activity to make the walk interesting. I'd guess that the perimeter is 1 to 1 1/2 miles around.
