I suspect that a majority of the "seasonaly used" homes around the lake are fully insulated, heated and quite capable or year round occupancy without to much concern for freezing.

Default Sure Do!

I do use my island camp year round or at least once the ice is safe to get out there.

Since, as you mention pipes freeze, I do shut the main water down in the camp during the winter but I have another portable system which utilizes heated hoses I use which works out great.

I have an enclosed outdoor shower unit which believe it or not is nice and cozy as long as the hot water is running on you. I have this set up literally two steps from a side porch door so there is no long walk / run when it's cold.

We have electricity on the island which pretty much covers all the essentials including heat, stove, oven, microwave, etc, etc. If for some reason the electricity goes down I have a generator as I don't think PSNH would rush out there to fix it!! . I also have a propane heater which really works well and heats the whole camp in the winter rather quickly and does not require electricity. I always make sure there is plenty of propane there when I leave in the fall.

The biggest winter issue is the bathroom... The best thing I have come up with thus far is porta-john bags which work out pretty well. I would rather use these than to go out to a freezing cold outhouse!!

Default Long, cold winters!

Dan:

When you are up, think about at ride to Braun Bay.

If you let us know that you are coming there might just be a long neck cooling in the snow for you!

Our condo is used year-round. In fact, the time from September to mid-June is some of the most enjoyable time at the lake. Less traffic, less hassle, more enjoyable overall (IMO).

We usually spend from Dec 23rd- Jan 2nd at the lake, and most weekends, depending on what projects I have going on between the condo and house.

Default Frostbite follies!!!

Every winter my Lake brothers and I put on a winter shindig.

We call it the Frostbite Follies and it includes snowmobiles, skates, skis, burgers, dogs. and beverages! Are you up for the snow shoe races? If anyone is interested is joining in let me know (PM). It is usually in early Feb.

So pack on your bean boots and we will do the snow dance!
