"Berry said he would like the thieves to return his fishing gear."

You think??? Excellent journalism.

On a serious note, I am not an ice fisherman but am surprised that people leave expensive equipment in a bob house. It is not like they are secure, and with the winter the way it has been I'd be worried about my bob house even being there, nonetheless secure and untouched.

Makes me sick, but also a sign of the economy

I don't think it is the economy that creates people that do not respect other's property. I think it is the decay of family values on an increasing scale. There are plenty of good moral people down on their luck that would not steal from others. It only takes a few swum to make headlines.

This is a story posted late this morning on an ice fishing forum with the action taking place on Newfound:
_______________________________________

Just a quick update.....Chainsaw called me and Taint confirmed.

There was alot of excitement on the lake today, around 30 cops, Fish N Gmae, EMT's, State Police showed up the lake this morning (Cummings beach) and possibly found the guy (or one of them) who may have been breaking into the bobhouses on the big lake. It's not clear what this guy is being charged of at the moment.

Anyways the story goes:

Chainsaw is fishing in his house and see's a guy near Mayhew Island looking real suspicious near some bobhouses. Turns, looks and see's a ton of cops on the ice heading his way shouting to Chainsaw "Take him down!!!" so with a full green light on (deputized), off Chainsaw goes chasing this guy across the lake with his brother in tow on his wheeler and a cop riding with him. After much chasing, they eventually caught this guy.

Best to watch WMUR tonight to see the specifics as I'm not sure why the cops were chasing this guy but he was on the lake sniffing around the bobhouses and the Circus shut this ------ down!

I hope this is one of the guys breaking into the bobhouses. By rights, they should turn him over to us for discipline.

Great job Chainsaw, you are my hero and the rest of the Circus thanks you sincerely! That's exactly what we need, while everyone else is out working, you got our backs. We take care of each other as friend / family that's how we roll and your part of that pride Chainsaw.

I look forward to shaking your hand as I'm sure the other Circus members with houses on the lake will too. Kudo's to you and your brother! I'm very proud of you both.

Whole new meaning to "Go Go Get EM!"

Way to go!

I was wondering if any of the many lakes area web cams may have caught the culprit in the act. I know many use motion activated DVR capabilities.

Depending on the value of the gear stolen, many may have coverage under their homeowners insurance.

Any shanties on Wolfeboro Bay yet?

Default Don't think so.

I drove by Dock Side yesterday and didn't see any. There were a couple of shanties by the beach. I couldn't tell if they were on the lake or not.

The "Circus" is a group of ice fisherman / women on Newfound lake. I assume "Taint" and "Chainsaw" are handles from another forum. This all this took place on Newfound and not Winni.

Default Unrelated...

It appears all the action on Newfound Lake was unrelated to the bobhouse bandits. Bummer.

Default robberies on the increase

I don’t think a day goes by when the news doesn’t include two or more banks, mini-marts, Dunkin donuts etc being robbed. Times are tough and many are willing to do whatever it takes to get money. Stealing tools etc and selling them is easy money.
When we are snowmobiling and stop for lunch we remove the GPS from the sled even if we can see it from where we sit. Unless I personally know someone, I do not trust them.
The sad thing is like No Regrets hinted at, in many cases it falls back on the parents and the way today’s youth have been raised. Or lack there of…

I hope they find the stolen items and you get them back.

Default Robberies and the economy

I am sure there is a correlation between the two.

I heard of several homes in the Manchester area broken into and copper pipes stolen from the basement area. One house had a cellar full of water!

I also heard on the news that thieves were pulling electrical copper wires out of the poles of parking lot lights!

As long as copper prices are sky high, make sure your bulkheads are secure!

Just ran into my neighbor today in Laconia. He said someone tried to break into his son's place 2 house down from his yesterday. In broad daylight.

Default Sorry but I disagree

While I think the economy might play a very small part in all these robberies at banks and stores, most are done by plan old dirtball thugs making money the lazy way or to satisfy their drug habits. I've not seen any that are caught that I look at and say, "they were just trying to feed their family the poor things". Nope, and in my mind police and media have somewhat contribute to the growth of this by repeatedly telling people not to fight back but to just let them have what they want and walk away. I think more video of armed robbers getting taken down might have the reverse effect.
