Default Ice Pics 2-25-12

Here are some pics I took today at noon time from Lincoln Park and further down Lake Shore rd near Elacoya State Park in Gilford. It was windy but the big winds did not really start until later on in the day after these were taken. Pics are not as clear as I wanted as there was a lot of blowing snow and in and out light conditions. This should however give some of you who have island homes a general idea of where the ice is at in the southern half of the lake.

Pic #1 shows Welch island on the right. You can see the big section of open water right in the middle.

Pic #2 is looking at Welch island. If you look closely out in front of Welch you can see other areas of open water. These areas are not as small as they look!! The wind should break this up nicely!

Pic #3 is a zoom of Welch where you can see how big those little spots of open water really are!!

Pic #4 is looking at Elacoya State Park. Yes those are ice fisherman fishing in front of the ramp by the RV park. The second point just beyond that would be Lake Shore Park.

Pic #5 is the broads with the Eastern tip of Welch island on the left. You can see the snow blowing hard across the lake! No open water however.

Come on ice out!!

Dan

Beautiful! I think F&G may open the lake early to open water fishing this year. Pray for rain...

Riverrat;

You warned everyone last weekend about the ramp! Good call on your part!! Another reason why I said in another post there is NO safe ice on the South side of the lake!!

Hope you had fun this short season!

Hi ishoot308, I had a great time although short. Made the most of it.
I would recommend anyone taking the shack off the bay to wait until first thing in the morning when the ramp is at its best and take off without a vehicle on the ice. park vehicle on ramp and pull off the ice with strap, chain ect...
be safe.

Excellent call Riverat. Another example of how valuable this type of local information can be.

Here is a look at the Alton ramp as of this morning.

The ice is starting to recede from the shore around Merrymeeting, and several large holes have opened up in the past 3 days. With the wind today, the ice packs were shifting a bit. Barring a drastic change in our weather pattern, it certainly looks like another record early ice-out.

2/26/12 The area by Eagle Island has a big open water area as does the area NW of Diamond Island.
